Cool.

It seems like every time something cool like this happens, it's too cloudy to see it.

I saw it the last time it happened...I had to get up at four A.M. to see it.

I hope it's not too cloudy here to see it. The last one was pretty cool. I didn't know about it until my daughter and I were on our way to dinner. :) You should have heard her squeal. It was the first one she'd ever seen.

I do recall once seeing this enormous red (planet or moon) in the northeast* sky. I think it was one morning (either in December or the summer months) around quarter to 5 a.m. on my way to work. I don't remeber the year...probably about 3 or 4 years ago. Sometimes the moon looks really large, but this was about 4 or 5 times larger the moon. It kinda looked like Jupiter, red and a little fiery looking (I don't remeber if it had stripe patterns on it or not). It also looked like heat waves were radiating on the surface of it. I never figured out what it was. I don't remeber hearing any hype about it, but then again I never watched much T.V. Maybe it was a lunar eclipse?? I wish I had time to stop and take a little more notice of it.

*Sorry, make that just the northern sky.

Kinda looks more like Mars than our familiar grey Moon when that happens. :) Cool pics!

Does anyone have a telescope to view these things? I bet that would be fun.

Elaine
November 7th, 2003, 10:44 PM
We have a telescope, but it's not a very good one. However, binoculars work well for something as close as the moon. You have the advantage of being able to look with both eyes, and you can see many more stars with them as well!

Okay, how many are going to try to watch it tonight? I am! :D

Christine

I'll probably watch it, seeing it's only around eight meaning I won't have to get up early or anything.

Elaine
November 8th, 2003, 05:00 PM
I already knew that, sis! :chuckle:

Sibbie's getting our camera ready. Unfortunately, we forgot our digital camera in PA a while back.

The moon shall turn to blood. ;)

Elaine
November 8th, 2003, 05:23 PM
I'd try taking pictures, but we don't have a digital camera anymore. Are you going to post any pictures of it on TOL? :D

Turbo

Sibbie called her mom and asked her to take pictures with our camera. So if they turn out, we may post one around Thanksgiving.

Or sooner if she emails them to us.

Elaine

I can see it starting to eclipse now. I have to go eat supper, but I'll be back later.

Elaine

the Sibbie

Oh man. Only one picture left...and I screwed it up!! I had it on the flash setting. I guess the camera resets to the original settings when the power is turned off.

We went on a walk and watched it. :)

I just saw the moon. Blood red. I remember this in the late 90's when it last happened. Does anyone remember what year that was?

It might turn out anyway. Cameras do strange things sometimes.

I have a $208.11 digital camera. It can't take pictures of the moon or anything else in the sky. A friend of mine has a $500.00 digital camera, and it does the same thing as mine. So unless your digital camera was like $1000.00, I doubt it would take good pictures of a moon. It's a pitty.

You're right. My mom has the same camera, and she couldn't get anything with it.

I just checked the Moon, nothing yet....

My dad said he heard the weather man say the next lunar eclipse will be October 23, 2004
