Anyone here have any interesting information on the manuscripts found in the Dead Sea in 1947. I heard from some guy that supposedly one of the scrolls said that Jesus was married. Is that true?

I've heard no such thing about the Dead Sea Scrolls.

I've heard such a thing about Gnostic gospels.

Ask yourself if anything in the Holy Bible leads youy to believe that Christ was married or picked up girls on Saturday night.

If ANYTHING goes against what the bible teaches us, then that other source is false and not to be tursted.

I think you're referring to the Gospel of Philip that was part of a collection of writings called the Nag Hammadi Library. I don't think any of the DSS refer to Jesus at all, let alone him as being married.

The dead sea scrolls are fragments of the old testament and don't mention the new testaments.

Perhaps the Jesus marriage theory comes from the Gospel of Phillip found in the Nag Hammadi Library of 1945. There it states, Jesus kissed Mary Magdalene a lot on the mouth and loved her more then all the disciples.

To read the Gospel of Phillip go to:

Goose, I am interested in that information of some present-day sects, where can I read it? Well, it was the sects of that time period and about the law of the Qumran community. It gives a lot of insight into the time. Here's a site I found off hand:

I have, here in my grubby, heathen paw, a copy of the Dead Sea Scrolls in English. While the findings included a number of copies of previously known OT mss., the interesting study of the Qumran documents involves the community rules discovered which illuminate the time period perhaps fifty years before the birth of Jesus.

Sorry, no new gospels.

Billy;
That seems to be a fairly closed minded view. Have you ever read the Gospel of Thomas? It was also found in the Nag Hammadi 'Library'. It is very reminiscent of the 4 Gospels in the Bible. It has even been speculated that there was an original source from which these 5 gospels were copied. I'm sure you have heard of the Quelle Document. If it exists, does it deserve the same recognition and reverence as the traditional Biblical canons?

Kingpin;
There it states, Jesus kissed Mary Magdalene a lot on the mouth and loved her more then all the disciples.

Billy;
Why is it so hard for some people to imagine that Jesus may have kissed a woman? [I am not implicating you, Kingpin]

Isn't love one of the greatest pleasures a man can experience? Why wouldn't Jesus want to experience it?

I just can't picture God flirting or kissing someone.

Did the gospel of Philip just say that Mary wasn't a virgin??

Well isn't that convinient. Things that disprove the Bible are a priori false. Couldn't a moslem say the same thing about the Quoran?

There are lots of fun things to read outside of the NT canon. But beyond being really interesting sometimes it might make fundamentalists squirm in their seats.

OrthodoxLegion, there is some good fun reading the stuff about the Lord Jesus faking His death and resurrection, and then running off to France with Mary to have some children. And that's some blood line.

DSS can be fun. So can that Nag Hammadi library. But even Elaine Pagels doesn't think that Jesus and Mary were intimate. I believe she does think they were close, closer than main stream would think, but not close enough to have children.
