On April 21st, I posted a petition that was against gay marriage. I would appreciate it if anyone who had read the petition or the thread, preferably both, would mind taking a minute or so to be judgemental on this poll.

I've actually come full circle on my thoughts where this and several other topics are concerned.
When I was a grade-schooler, I did and thought what I was told. As a teen and in college, I questioned, challenged, and rebelled (a lot!)
As an adult, I've taken a more critical look at everything. I concluded most of what I leaned as a child was, indeed, correct. When I was pretending all of it was wrong and that all behaviors were valid and equal (as a young adult) was actually when I was most childish. Ironic.
"When I was a child, I talked like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man (adult,) I put childish ways behind me." (1 Corinthians 13:11)
Understanding what is truly wrong or right, good or evil, is to be an adult.
I will not support "marriage" between gays, and even if this country is spineless enough to cave to the demands of the immoral minority, I will still not support "gay marriage."

It's not so much that Disney World supports it, it's that they gays come and make it their day, or "days", but Disney World therefore warns those of us who would be offended know so as not to coincide our trips with that.
At least that's how it originally started out - maybe now they do support it and I don't know, but originally it was not something that they set up, promoted or wanted - they just warned.

DisneyLand, in California, has it too. That's one reason that my husband and I quit going. But, it was bad enough on "regular" days. The homosexual couples just had to display their affection for their partners publicly. Eeewwww! I don't even like to see straight couples in public displays of affection. And, I'm thirty-five years old. The closest my husband and I came to public displays of affection was when he would hold my hand as we walked.

I don't necessarily want homosexual marriage legalised for myself... but if I ever decided to marry a woman, I'd want to be able to.
So I won't answer that question with a yes or a no. I want homosexual marriage legalised so that other people can enter into marriage, should they desire to.
I'm all for the acceptance of monogamous marriage as an ideal for everyone.

I based my comment on actual fact. Homosexuals can currently marry in Amsterdam or Canada and have their marriages recognised in the US. It's happened already.
Crow
May 2nd, 2004, 10:55 PM
And what are you calling recognition? Can the homosexuals claim joint filing status on taxes? Are they entitled to family leave? Or are you referring to people who tolerate their behavior, just as they tolerate the unmarried gay couples that are already here.
What legal status do these "marriages" have?

Good questions. I'm not a hundred percent sure.
I know there's no full allotment of family benefits, but they can legally declare themselves married.
I'll have a dig and see what that actually entails.

ABC (http://abcnews.go.com/sections/us/Relationships/gay_marriage_poll_040224.html) poll. Just fyi, ABC is nothing close to being a "Christian" news service.
Gallup (http://www.gallup.com/content/login.aspx?ci=10585) says, "About 6 in 10 Americans oppose the legalization of same-sex marriage,"
So it would appear the rest of the US is catching up to TOL :)

Unfortunately, the US doesn't work this way.
The Majority (85% or something) identify as christian.
But you couldn't start and pass a ban on being Jewish, or Muslim, simply because the majority says they want to.
This is the first amendment that has ever been presented to actually prevent rights of another. It's historical, actually.
Not only is it now not legal for two people of the same sex to marry, but they want to ban it from ever becoming legal.
Kind of overkill, don't you think?

no, it doesn't restrict rights. Historically, marriage has ALWAYS been defined as taking place between one man and one woman. this is the SAME FOR EVERYONE. no ones rights would be any different, therefore it can't be said the amendment would prevent rights for anyone. It would, however, prevent the redefining of marriage and the abuse of the right to marry.
(by the way, historical is "based on people or events of the past, or established by history." you wanted to use either historic or precedent setting.)

this question has absolutely nothing to do with the discussion at hand, and is the usual red herring thrown out in an effort to derail the discussion and obscure the actual controversy, while lending an air of legitamacy to an illegitamate proposal.
