My wife and I had decided to name our unborn boy Jackson Paul (followed by our last name). Now someone in the family has stepped forward and accused Jackson of being a "hood" name and my wife won't go for it anymore. All negotiations have broken down and are going nowhere.

Please give us some ideas. And no jokes or funny business please....we need serious ideas. I'll entertain any idea put forth on this board.

Thanks

Why not just Jack?

Jacob? Joseph? Isaac? Aaron? What sort of name are you looking for?

cattyfan

a "hood" name? I think the family critics owe you and your wife an apology for ruining such a special time for you and your wife.

It's a perfectly decent name.

God's blessings on your bundle of boy.

Well, there is a Michael Jackson...he's just ruined it for everybody. Until that pervert is executed, those names are tainted.

Jake might make a good replacement for Jack.

Jackson on the birth certificate...Jack for every day.

as for Michael Jackson...he's a nonfactor.

Just think about Stonewall or something....

Jackson Pollack

Um, What is it?

cattyfan
March 2nd, 2005, 10:13 PM
He calls it "Number 8"

Lots of abstracts and surrealism in Pollack's work. Some very interesting pieces....but I still like Peter Max better.

Oh I see. Kind of hard to make out at first.

That's too bad, I've always like the name Jackson. I had a friend who had the nickname Rough Jackson.

As for a name, are you looking for something somewhat unique?

I'm with Cattyfan. Our intent was Jackson for the paperwork, Jack for everyday. I always loved the name Jack. But I really wanted to use Roger, but she totally won't go for it.

There was a kid on our soccer team that both he and his brother were named after some famous "Jack's" One was named Keegan and the other was named Cooper and the youngest was named Kennedy. A unique approach, but you could only take it so far. As a kid I wouldn't want someone calling me Nicholson all day!! :)

Ezekiel [Zeke for short]

My cousin named her baby Jackson Kenneth. I like it alot. She doesn't use "jack" though.
My favorite person in the world is my Pappy Jack, so I always thought I would name someone after him, but his real name is John and I've got a husband, father in law and great uncle John too.

My big Tom Cat's name is Jack...:D

October, the name sounds fine. What, exactly, do YOU think a "hood" name is? Because if someone's honestly criticizing it for sounding "too black" or something absurd, they deserve a foot up their keister.

Stay with your first choice.

Isn't that just as good? He's equally dead, either way.

On the name front, the first thing that tends to spring to mind when I hear the name "Jackson" is Old Hickory, Andrew Jackson.

YMMV.

I tend to think of Jackson Browne.

What do you think of Evan David? David is my first name, but also David Evans is "The Edge," guitar player for U2

Aaron is a cool name. Every dude I knew named Aaron was cool.

But I have just got her to agree to Evan David. That is boss because my favorite band U2, their guitar player, The Edge, his real name is David Evans.

I like U2. Except for Vertigo. That song just sounds like they are all playing a different song.

All that you can't leave behind is a great album.
