Here's a tread for just homeschoolers. Here we can tell each other our favorite subjects, or just anything about our homeschooling.

Thanks for posting this but we already have a forum for homeschooling. One I am particularly fond of. :D Feel free to post your comments in there. :thumb:

Well, there are plenty of homeschoolers here at TOL, but don't expect non-homeschoolers to post here.

I would be interested in know how many homeschoolers we actually have here. Why don't you start a poll?

Good idea. I'm going to go ahead and move this to the Homeschool resource center under the "For Teachers" forum.

Billy;
I meant, 'Dont expect non-homeschoolers NOT to post here.'

Hey, that's a double negative, sorta like 'public schools'.

Did anyone ever start the poll? I had a lot to do today and by the time I was done, it started storming here. I hope it doesn't storm tomorrow. If no one else starts the poll, I will. :)

My favorite subject is History.
I use the School of Tomorrow curriculum. I have been tutored by a home school mom for (going on) five years. My worst subject is English (I don't hate it, I'm just not very good at it). And I always get done about two hours before the public schoolers.:p

Hi, Shadowmaid! I'm a home-schooled girl, too.:) I'm a junior, using a variety of curricula including Abeka for English and history, Saxon for math, and Dr. Wile for science. I also use Critical Thinking for history. History is also my favorite subject. Math is the subject that I have the most difficulties with. I also take some foreign languages.:bannana:

ShadowMaid
October 6th, 2003, 07:57 PM
Which languages?
I am trying to take Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew, and I will have no choice but to take Greek in highschool, it'll be fun anyways.

You're taking Hebrew? Cool. I'm taking Latin, Greek, and Hebrew. Greek isn't that bad. Hebrew is probably my favorite. I'm almost done learning the extensive alphabet. What do you curriculum do you use for languages?

Poly

Shadowmaid, what grade are you in? I think it's cool that we have homeschoolers on here that post. I have 2 in high school. I might have to see if they'd be interested in getting on here.

I'm in 8th grade.

I am not actually taking a language right now. Just trying to get everything organized to take a language.

Oh and added to the list is Russian. My step mom is teaching me. :thumb:

Shadowmaid, what curriculum are you going to be using for Hebrew? I'm asking because my family does not know what to use next. The book we are currently using only does the alphabet. We are using Zola's Introduction to the Hebrew by John Parsons, forward by Zola Levitt.:jessilu:

Nori... I just turned 14!! (Happy birthday to me!!! ). I'd love to be a pen pal with your daughter!! Sounds fun!!

Christine... I'm not taking Hebrew yet, just looking for a way to learn. Sorry for the miscommunication.

ShadowMaid
October 8th, 2003, 08:24 PM
Although... I do have a CD with a lot of languages on it. It says that you can learn any of the languages in 30 days. It has (lets see if I can name them off the top of my head) Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Hebrew, English for the Spanish speakers, ... so on so forth. There are supposed to be 11 languages, I can't remember them all.

Shadowmaid, look at my profile, my birthday is September 27 as well.:D
Also, if you are looking for a good beginner Hebrew book I heartily recommend Zola's Introduction to the Hebrew by John Parsons you can read about it at www.levitt.com Go to first page and scroll until you come to online store. Once there, click on books.:thumb: I really enjoy it

An action cannot be both legal and unlawful...

unlawful adj. 1. Against the law. 2. Immoral. 3. illegitimate.

Webster's II New Riverside Desk Dictionary, Copyright 1988 Houghton Mufflin Company, First Longmeadow Press Edition 1995.

Because Knight generally appeals to the standard of absolute morality rather than current US laws, it is obvious that when Knight writes concerning murder, he is referring to "The immoral killing of one human by another..."

Even though you claim there is no absolute morality, surely you recognize by now that Knight does.

I wonder if you object when people speak of the legalized slaughter of Jews during the Holocaust as murder. Perhaps you'd also argue that because the unborn are not defined as human by current US laws, abortion cannot be called murder. And since Jews were not humans according to the laws of Nazi Germany, no Jews were murdered.

A Jew is a human even when in a country where the government has passed laws stating that Jews are not human. Would you agree, Zakath?

I, like Elaine, was saved at a young age, and have been home-schooled all my life. We have lived on the same lot of land our whole lives. Neither Christine nor Elaine are our real names. They are our middle names. I really enjoy reading, but don't have as much time to read as I used to. We have four cats.

P.s. A few years back we took a vacation to Michigan. Saw the lake, it was lovely, and went to the Henry Ford Museum.

I suppose I should mention some of my interests. I like reading, playing with our cats, classical music, some southern gospel music, and hymns.

My (nickname) is Liz, the things I like to do are listed under my avatar. I don't have any pets (though I'm dying to get some cats, a few dogs, couple hampsters and birds). I'm in 8th grade. And I was saved at the age of 8.

 Sometimes Christine gets tired of my classical music, too, and then we have to listen to southern gospel for a while. One group which we each like is the Hoffman Family (http://mywebpage.netscape.com/lockportarealeah/hoffman-family.htm) :guitar:. What classical composers do you like? :)

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How many times do I have to see that? I use to spell "seperate" wrong many times. But then a teacher (one teacher, not many) told me (not many times, but once), "you can't spell that word because there is 'a rat' in it" And ever since then, many times spelling it later, I've spelled it right. But then again, many years ago, a teacher said, "'here' is a word when sound goes in your ears because you can see the 2 'ears' next to the 'head' that is the 'r'" (not many times, just once). But what I didn't hear, was that she also said "don't forget... it is the opposite." It took me the longest time (many weeks) to stop writing "I here with my ears." And the many times I was corrected, I would say, "CAN'T YOU SEE THE EARS?"

So what can I say? Many things, but just the right thing to say would be... How about this? "'a', as an article, means 'one of many'" Such as: There is 'the' Madonna, a single Virgin Mary, but the word madonna in olden times referred to 'a' lady (one of many ladies) as it is derived from 'ma' and 'donna' literally translated 'my lady'"

I hope these many words do not confuse the issue. Just remember:
'a' means 'one of many'

I really like Mozart and Beethoven, but Bach's harpsichord music grates on my nerves. I like a few of his, though, such as "Badinerie." I really like Tchaikovsky! But I also like Rossini, Handel, Bizet, Scarlatti, Dvorak, and Rimsky-Korsakov. I like lots of others, too, and I don't think I could ever choose a favorite. I never liked opera, either. :)

Yes.
In fact the 3 of them are "out there" right now, loosing their focus. I know this because I can hear things banging around, like heads against the wall, etc.

So, one of 2 things generally happens, either they are messing around and I have to go out and settle them down, or if I go out and they are working (heads down), I chase 'em around with a fly swatter. :bannana:

Of course this presumes that Mom is gone (like right now). Otherwise, if Mom is at her desk, I have to stay in my room (just kidding).

Yes. Jessilu is my daughter. :) I think Poly told me that she has three kids on here (I'm not sure, so don't quote me on that). Knight's talking about getting his kids on here.

The closest we have to interactive chat is the shout box, which most, if not all, of the kids can use (since the parents are subscribers).

Isn't that in my job description, though? It isn't so much stalking as keeping you on a leash. :chuckle:

How many dogs do you have?
What do you like to read?
Do you like math?

Do you like music? Do you play an instrument or like to sing?

LightSon,

Jessilu is now home and has to work towards the reward of being allowed online. :chuckle: I will make sure she sees your post tonight though. I told her that if I point out any interesting posts to her for her to write out what she wants to say so she won't forget by this weekend. She will be staying the night with my mom again in about two weeks.

I am 16. In the 11th grade and I enjoy watching and playing football. Wrestling and just hanging out with friends. I hope to some day start a wrestling orginization like the WWF with my cousin, but with a christian influence.

Yeah, it's not really that hard, but there is a definite amount of extra work. I quite enjoy it actually. It's fun to be on your toes!!:thumb:

Well it is still in the early construction stages. We have put on only a couple of shows in a small crowd. More and more people are getting involved though. The type of wrestling is similar to the WWF style, but cleaner.
