Abortion will never seriously be threatened in this country because enough people on both sides of the argument have too much invested in the struggle, not the end game. Orwell's principle of endless war seems to apply here.
What once was shameful is now acceptable: Bristol Palin's pregnancy and shotgun marriage used to be the stuff of rude talk, taboo as it were. Choosing a high-profile career even with an infant to look after (special needs no less) was once beyond the pale. Not so these days. Not your grandfather's Republicans, to be sure...
What, exactly, would it take for an all out revolt in the streets? Lack of television, more than likely.
Talk about ending illegal immigration strikes me as timely as a Roman wondering whether or not the Vandals should be kicked out or temporarily accommodated.
Yes, some of you are bitter and some of you do cling to your guns and religion. Nothing personal--that's just the way it is.
Weekends are far too short.
