Indeed? Of course, this would rule out quite a few important Christian beliefs, which weren't "hammered out" in the Church until much later than the Apostolic Period, for example the doctrine of the Trinity which wasn't defined by the Church until the 4th century A.D. In any case, even most Protestant scholars acknowledge the reality of "doctrinal development post-Jesus."
