Newsweek Reporter: Obama Is God. - June 8th, 2009, 12:26 PM

So what do you have to say for yourselves NOW, all you atheists and agnostics out there?

And all of you who love this country, be on notice: We're above that now.

From demagogue to demigod to god.

"Resistance to tyrants is obedience to God." - Thomas Jefferson

"The Hand of providence has been so conspicuous in all this, that he must be worse than an infidel that lacks faith, and more than wicked, that has not gratitude enough to acknowledge his obligations." - George Washington

"What is faith? Is it to believe that which is evident? No. It is perfectly evident to my mind that there exists a necessary, eternal, supreme, and intelligent being. This is no matter of faith, but of reason." - Voltaire

I wouldn't take this too seriously...

Well, it was a passing comment made by some stuffed shirt talking head. I wouldn't take this pundit's remark to heart, as it were.

Uh... obviously nobody takes the comment to heart (in this context I am not even sure what that would mean).

Don't you think it's a bit over the top (even for a liberal reporter) to be talking about a political figure as a "god"?

Sure. But that's modern so-called reporting. Sensationalism and hyperbole are SOP.

I don't know what else to say. What a dumb comment. But, it clearly isn't meant literally.

Obvious OP jokes aside, I was struck by the sentiment such a comment betrays more than the literalism of the issue.

Seems the me the media has given up all pretenses of objectivity at this time and they're less and less ashamed to come right out and be blatant about it...

TV news seems to have become dominated by commentators rather than reporters, people who aren't even making a pretense of objectivity, and who are essentially paid to offer their opinions. I don't know if that is good or bad. At least you know the bias of the people who are delivering your news, and that can be a really useful thing to know.

I'd also suggest that the contrast between a Rush Limbaugh or a Sean Hannity and someone like Keith Olbermann or Chris Matthews is mostly a matter of the part of the political spectrum they inhabit, and furthermore, it seems to me that it was the right that pioneered this form of political influence before the left started employing it. Chris Matthews (I assume that's the Matthews from your source) has been a pretty consistent Obama supporter for quite a while, so no big surprise that he brings on a guy to fawn over Obama.

Outside of Fox, Rush, and the WSJ the liberals pretty much control the news

I'd expand Rush into the category of talk radio, which is pretty big and very influential within a certain demographic.

I dunno about the rest. Is ABC really that biased? CBS? CNN? I know the right thinks they are, but I'm not convinced.

Honeymoons always end.

They'll wake up one morning and find the creature they're in bed with isn't the Prince Charming they thought he was.

That's when it'll get interesting!
