College Football: Rooting Out Loud. -

Thought it might be fun to have a thread where we can set out our particular thoughts as the season unfolds.
I watched Alabama destroy VT tonight everywhere but on the scoreboard, pulling away late after a string of absurd penalties and missed opportunities. Either VT has a magnificent special teams coach and cadre or Alabama has a bit of work to do if they want to have any hope of getting past Florida in the SEC Championship game (yes, I presuppose Bama will win its half of the conference).
Saban left his star sophomore running back in too late in the game and it nearly cost us, assuming his knee tweak is nothing more than that.
The Good: Defense. With the exception of a couple of mental errors that led to seven of the VT's points, the defense did a stellar job of negating the Hokie offense and making their fleet of foot QB a non factor.
Offense: in the second half, the offense seemed to find its rhythm and RB Ingram began to punish an obviously tiring Tech defense. His and the line's conditioning are exactly what Alabama once relied on and needs with a green QB under center. Speaking of which, Alabama's McElroy settled down after spending the first half mostly overthrowing open receivers and squandering scoring opportunities. While it's early to say much more than that, I liked what I saw in the second half nearly as much as I hated his play in the first.
The Bad: special teams. Just a horrific and inadequate performance. They kept the Hokies in the game and believing. Penalties. Far too many and far too many mental mistakes on both sides of the ball throughout the contest.
All in all I'm feeling good about our chances, though the looming buzz-saw that is Florida would give any reasonable fan pause. How good Bama can be (and whether or not we have a shot at the title) depends on how consistently our offense plays and how much improvement can be made in kick-off and punt coverage. One thing is certain: mistakes like the ones I saw tonight would bury us repeated against the Gators.
Stay tuned...
Oh, and
Or, in the alternative, feel free to take your best shot at kmo.
Woody Hayes is probably rolling in his grave over the OSU offensive line play the last 6 years or so.
A tragedy the Greeks would complain about. I prefer a strong OSU, ND, Michigan...makes the whole thing more interesting...that said, I'd just as soon they turned Florida into a Junior College....made Miami an learning annex...that sort of thing.

Bradford will only miss a couple of weeks, and if OU can manage to navigate the Big 12 without losing, then they will have a shot at the title game.
As for me, I am a fan of a program that has managed one winning season in the last 10 years, but somehow remains a proud member of the SEC. Do you know who I cheer for? TH, you can't answer...

I love college football BCS detrators be ''darned''. If their ever IS a playoff it should be 4 teams, 8 TOPS!!! NO MORE! You had your shot, you blew it. That's the beauty of it. Huge matchups in September/October that actually mean something.
Sorry if I step on a toe or two here but for the past 10-15 years my friend and I look at the pre-season top 25 and try to find a team that's not one of the elites that are up there EVERY year and try and root them on. The last few years California seems to have emerged as that new threat (Texas Tech last year for a while). Cal is pre-season #12 this year but wait!....how about those Runnin' Rebs from Mississippi?...in at #8. I guess I'll be rooting for them. Nice resume coming in as the ONLY team to beat Florida last year. Plus I love their red/white/gray/blue uniform, very classy looking.

Should we start a "Stuff kmoney Likes" blog? We can put Serena Williams at #2 behind #1 cows.
