So what happened to all the people? Do you go for the "bottleneck" theory that has happened a bunch of times over billions of years to account for the small population compared to how long people have been around?
Well, all the bottlenecks except the one about 5000 years ago.

You do realize that populations don't grow exponentially right (if they did we would have a rather serious bacteria problem)? The explosive growth of today is due to the industrial revolution and the technological advancements due to science. Another important factor would be the invention of agricultural societies as opposed to hunter-gatherer societies.
Look at how the death rate dropped during the modernization the last century leading to lower birth rates and population stabilization in modernized countries:
A literal reading of Genesis is simply ridiculous and it does nothing but hurt Christianity.
"By the tender mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will break upon us to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace." (Luke 1:78-79)

I believe that the Universe is one being, all its parts are different expressions of the same energy,
and they are all in communication with each other, therefore parts of one organic whole.
This whole is in all its parts so beautiful, and is felt by me to be so intensely in earnest, that I am compelled to love it and to think of it as divine

This sort of statement does nothing but hurt Christianity.
"God foreknows nothing by contingency, but that he foresees, purposes, and does all things according to his immutable, eternal and infallible will. By this thunderbolt, "free will" is thrown prostrate and utterly dashed to pieces. Those therefore, who would assert "free will," must either deny this thunderbolt, or pretend not to see it, or push it from them." -Martin Luther
"The Church has surrendered her once lofty concept of God and has substituted for it one so low, so ignoble, as to be utterly unworthy of thinking, worshiping men. This she has not done deliberately, but little by little and without her knowledge; and her very unawareness only makes her situation all the more tragic." -A.W. Tozer
"He that has doctrinal knowledge and speculation only, without affection, never is engaged in the business of religion." -Jonathan Edwards

Claiming that the world is 10 000 years old (or less...) and that everything was created in their final form over 6 days is just folly. It is downright depressing that there are people, who have the possibility of education, believes that kind of non-sense.
Not only that, it is also unorthodox if we look at Christian theology throughout history, but more importantly it has been falsified by the natural sciences.
Creationism turns people into atheists. A lot of people associate that non-sense with Christianity and based on that, and rightly so, they turn away from it.

If it's the science that turns people from Christ, then they never had a chance to begin with. It isn't logic that saves people. It's the grace of God.

I'm curious but when you become a Lutheran minister is this how you are going to talk to your congregation? If one of your church members comes to you and says they believe in YEC how will you respond? Hopefully, not with "You's an idiot! You believe in nonsense!"

Don't be a moron. Put your education to use. They are necessary to explain why the population is as low as it is if people have been around for a million years, instead of just 6500. The math doesn't work for a million years.

What math doesn't work? Genetic variation occurrs even after a population bottleneck. The yellow marble could reappear in the population later, or another color altogether. Your simplistic model deals with the negative short term effects of a bottleneck, not the effect over millions of years.

Well, all the bottlenecks except the one about 5000 years ago.
Seems we are headed for another "bottleneck" that doesn't exist.
PARIS (AFP) – Mankind may have unleashed the sixth known mass extinction in Earth's history, according to a paper released by the science journal Nature.
Over the past 540 million years, five mega-wipeouts of species have occurred through naturally-induced events.
They all happened except the one 5000 years or so ago.

An example of the practical ramifications of anti-scientific thinking vs scientific thinking -
It was anti-scientific thinking that helped the USSR beat the USA into space.
And it was the repudiation of anti-scientific thinking that helped the USA beat the USSR to the moon.
Anti scientific thinking / the willful ignorance of fundamentalism is a grave cultural weakness in the USA, one that puts our rivals in china and India at an advantage we cant afford. Especially as there are about 7 times as many of them as there are americans.
