I once used to be a very great racist, and I even went so far as to praise Hitler's institution of the Holocaust during World War II; nothing could be more commendable, I thought, then a desire to live in a world without Jews, blacks, etc. Nothing would be a better world, so I thought, than a world with only white people.

Those days lie behind me, buried in the former half of my undergraduate education. My former reasonings, all but forgotten...

Until just now. Blacks, a certain poster reminded me, commit 7 times more murders than white people. Blacks, I remember reading once, take up a disproportionate amount of the welfare. Blacks, I remember reading once, are the stupidest race there is, if you go by IQ.

They tend to be dumb. They tend to be loud. They tend to be obnoxious. They tend to be poor. They tend to be criminals. They're soaking up welfare money like sponges.

Surely, the United States would be better if there were no black people? When I thought this way before, I reasoned according to the "old man," not according to the "new man." My thoughts were carnal and grasped at temporal things, whereas they should have been spiritual and reaching up to eternal things.

A single question pressed on my mind and lifted me up from the disease under which I labored then: "Why do black people exist rather than not?" Here is a black person with as low an IQ as you reasonably could imagine; let him be on welfare; let him be a robber, a thief, a racist, or whatever else you please.

He is, nonetheless, not causa sui. He exists only contingently. There is at least one possible world in which he does nto exist. In fact, the likelihood that he should exist at all is almost none. The likelihood that this or that person should be born, when you take into consideration the small number of children that any human couple will have as opposed to the vast number of sperm that never make it...it's really astounding.

And that's just for one person. His parents had the same likelihood. Their parents had the same likelihood. You get the idea. It is almost impossible that this man I've described above should exist.

Yet, against all odds, he exists.

Why?

The only reason that he should exist is because a Supremely Good God, in the silences of His Eternity, saw this man as possible. Seeing that possibility, He loved what He saw. Remember that God does not consider things as we consider them. We consider things in part from our limited perspective. God is able to turn any given thing on all possible sides. He knows it inside and out. He sees it in all possible relations to all other possible existents. And even so: He loved that possibility.

Of the infinite number of possible worlds that God could have created, there is only one that God would decide to create: this one. Because He desired to create a world as much like Himself as possible. In creation, He desired to make a moving image of His beauty and goodness. God would create nothing but the best (or one of the best).

And this world, God saw, would be incomplete without even a single of its constituent parts. This world would not be complete without that man I've described previously. But for God's creating that man, God would have deemed this world as incomplete.

And so God saw that man as possible. Seeing him, He loved him so much that He sooner would not have created any world at all than create a world where that man doesn't exist. And loving him from all eternity, God spoke Him into existence through his Word: "So be it!"

And as though this were not enough:

God saw that this man would fall into the darkness of sin. God saw that this man would wander away from Him. God saw that His love for this man would often be unreciprocated. God saw that this man should prefer himself to God.

And this is what truly amazes me, my friends. Think of how much God loved him even then:

"...Because when as yet we were sinners, according to the time, [9] Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8-9).

God loves every human person so much that He decided that this world would be incomplete without him in it. God loves every human person so much that He died on the cross for men. Every human life has an intrinsic value and dignity. Every human person has a calling and a purpose. Every human person has a mission that God saw fit for him, and him alone, to be sent for. And each person has a calling to dwell in a heavenly home: if only we live a life of faith, hope and charity in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Never forget that.

Thus it is impossible to say that the human race is ignorant; howerver you can say that different CULTURES are.

Judeo/Christian western civilization is by far a superior culture. People of all races have been born and raised in that culture, and depending on if they took advantage of it's roots (learning from the Bible), would depend on their state of ignorance.

Those are facts that I used to spout when I still was an adamant racist. Billybob reminded me of the "7 times more murder" fact. So, what inspired this thread was something like: "If I were faced with myself, using the same old arguments as I used to use, how would I answer myself?" I think that the arguments I've given here suffice to answer myself as I was formerly...and various racists now, I think.

I'm bloody sure they wouldn't because rationality isn't on their side anyway, as you must surely now be aware? There is no "reason" to consider skin colour as "superior". There's no "rationale" in the argument to begin with....
