EXPLANATION OF EPHESIANS 2:8-9 -
March 13th, 2012, 11:24 PM
8"For by grace (God's grace) ye have been saved through faith; (your faith) and that not of yourselves: (not by your own works but by God's grace) it is the gift of God: (What is the gift of God? God's grace is the answer) 9 "Not of works, lest any man should boast."
By these two versus we can conclude: that God's grace is offered to ALL of humanity, and is received through our individual faith placed in His, message of mercy/forgiveness and eternal life which is provided by the shed blood of His Son on the cross and subsequent resurrection...
These verses also assure us that God's offer of salvation is not due to our works and therefore, we have no reason to boast...
Wrong, but close. You are not saved by your faith. Paul is explicit. You are saved by his faith. That is what he means by if you are faithless he is faithful, he cannot deny himself.
Faith as a synonym for believe, yes. As most fake Christians put it, no.

Sorry, you're wrong. No cigar my friend, you weren't even close this time...
The verse you partially quoted is, 2 Timothy 2:13---"If we believe not, yet he abides faithful: he cannot deny himself." In this verse Paul is speaking about those who are already saved (If "we" believe not, yet he abides faithful) Paul's not speaking about the unregenerate in that passage!!!

I know that. That is what I said. When you believe the gospel and confess it, you are saved. If your faith wavers and you are weak it doesn't matter. You were sealed. You can not lose salvation.
Delmar being full of wisdom surmised heaven isn't a prison. I agree. If you want to leave his presense, you probably can. But I say, nobody will.

You're not articulating well my friend. Your first post doesn't relate to your second one...Sounds like you're doing some "back peddling" or perhaps you're just not being clear?? Explain what you mean by, "His faith?"

Where does it say in those two verses that grace is offered to all?

I take it you believe God only offers His grace, to a few chosen before the foundation of the world??? The object of the thread is to interpret Ephesians 2:8-9 To most, it's a given that God's grace is offered to ALL, except for those that adhere to Calvinist beliefs. Calvinists will not except this interpretation of Ephesians 2:8-9 that's also a given. So I won't argue the point with you...

You made a conclusion regarding the verses. You said that God's grace is offered to all of humanity. I'm asking where you see that in those verses?

So you admit that you can't actually conclude what you say you concluded, based on those verses. Fair enough.
You're such a wise guy my friend. I appreciate you're participation, no matter how "inane" it is...
GM,
I am afraid that I will have to agree with NC here. These verses to not speak to the subjects for whom Christ died. They merely say that for the intended readers of the letter [Christians] their faith is a gift.

Peace,
Rick
We'll have to agree to disagree then!! Faith is something ALL of humanity possesses.Without faith it's impossible to please God. Abraham "believed" God. etc. I'm afraid thus far, you and nicky are wrong...Are you a Calvinist per chance???
