Does God offer salvation? - June 5th, 2012, 06:24 PM

Note: this thread is in the Exclusively Christian Theology forum but all serious replies to the question will be considered. Thank you.

Does God offer salvation?
I have heard that God offers salvation and all we have to do is accept God's offer.
I have tried to find the Bible verses that support these statements, but whenever I look for offer and accept in the Bible, it is man offering to God and God accepting.

Here are a couple of overviews I found on the subject, but I am looking for more in-depth study on the question.

NOOO!! – The word “OFFER” is not in the Book in that sense. To the contrary, Jesus Died, - was crucified, and was buried, and was resurrected!! ( “That’s” not offering anything ). That is called a Cup that we all MUST drink. - The Prophets of Christ are told to PREACH the Gospel. ( That’s not an offering either ). Any lost person hearing the Gospel and is pricked in his heart, and is baptized, shall be saved. – ( There is NO OFFERING IN ANYTHING OF THE GOSPEL. Only the preaching of it. – That is called “The Calling”. - We are Called by the Gospel, not offered anything. It’s true, if one obeys the Gospel, he receives Christ which is our Eternal Life. God does not offer it, man “TOOK” THE LIFE OF CHRIST, and Christ has made a “WAY” for that sinner to be REDEEMED. - There is still no “OFFERING”. – One either has Faith, or he does not have Faith. - Faith is “NOT OFFERED”. One just believes what is PREACHED, or he does not.

So you do not believe that Ephesians 2:8-9 is an offer of salvation through the grace of God?

Rom 2:28-29

28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Well, you said one thing, and referred to Eph 2:8-9, which does not come close to what you stated ! Thats how false teaching is started !

It doesn't SAY that it is. It doesn't even say that it's a reword, but it's more of a reword if it's anything, but God doesn't say that it's either, so neither do I, but YOU must, I suppose.

Is it offered to all or just given to the elect?

All I asked was a question and you are trying to answer that question with a question.

Your question is promoting a lie. Nothing about an offer in Eph 2:8-9 except in your apostate mind !

My Bible says salvation is a gift, it does not say it is offered or that God is standing there waiting for us to take it.

Matthew 7:8
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Maybe you didn't mean to say taken?

Matthew 11:12
And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

But this is the central issue of the thread. Are Christians claiming that salvation is being offered by God to anyone that is willing to receive because some preacher decided to play word games with the "gift of God" and ended up creating a false doctrine that is not what is taught in scripture?

Luke 13:5
5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Does this really sound like Jesus is pleading with us to accept a gift He is offering to us?

That is what I read in the Bible.

I can't find that anywhere, which is why I started this thread, so someone can show me where it says that.

It says that we obtain God's favor through faithfulness and that salvation is a gift to the faithful, not a payment for works.

Salvation itself was not offered to anyone. (The free gift)

It is a free gift, so that no man can boast.

It is because people confuse 'being born again' with salvation that we have this problem.

Only those who put that free gift into a relationship, by choosing to take up that cross/free gift and follow Him, are born again. The rest are blotted out of the book of life.

You can read that in Revelation.
