Ooh... I've never seen this old thread, but it looks like fun.

Here is my original TOL avatar. (actually, I had a smaller version at first.)

Here's an alternate Wario avatar. I was planning on switching to this one after a week or two, but we switched to a superhero theme before I got around to it.

I've got another Transformers avatar ready to go, and I'm working on a fancy new Spidey one. The Spider-Man one is animated, so it will be tough to get it within the filesize limit.

My avatar is the same one I started with. I've had a few others but not many.

Why are they called avatars anyways???

Webster's define avatars as....

Hinduism a god appearing on earth in bodily form; incarnation of a god

If the word "avatar" is rooted in hinduism, what the heck is it doing being used at a Christian forum? I realize that's what they are called at all the other forums, is there anything else we could call them that's not so hinduish?

grace & peace

I suppose "icon" would work, but it has some of the same problems associated with "avatar."

Despite its origin, "avatar" seems to have taken on a distinctive "tech jargon" meaning.

Some of the other definitions are not specifically tied to Hinduism.

I ought to get back to work on my actual animated spidey sometime soon. It might end up too big though. We'll see.
