Yes, because that was BEFORE He died. Israel was still under the old covenant/Torah UNTIL Christ died. Jesus bridged the gap between the two, teaching that the new covenant would be something better, greater, more superior because it would be in HIM/His blood .... not the temporary animal sacrifices that could not take away sin once and for all.
There was never ever one nanosecond of time that Israel obeyed the covenant of God .... so why/how do you think you can?
