Bachmann, Santorum, Gingrich Sign Personhood Pledge -
December 14th, 2011, 08:30 AM
ARVADA, Colo., Dec. 14, 2011 -- Personhood USA has unveiled a detailed and unique pledge declaring a commitment to advance the personhood rights of every human being, born and preborn. Ahead of the nation’s first presidential caucus in Iowa, Personhood USA is asking the Republican candidates to sign the pledge and declaration.
“I ____________ proclaim that every human being is created in the image and likeness of God, and is endowed by our Creator with the unalienable right to life,” it reads.
So far, candidates who have returned the pledge with their signatures include Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
"This pledge is the most basic articulation of the unalienable right to life," said syndicated radio host Steve Deace, whose influence in the Iowa Caucuses has been highlighted by numerous national media outlets. ”Pro-life voters should consider who has a position on the sanctity of life and who has a conviction on the sanctity of life by the way the candidates respond to this pledge. As a pro-life voter, I know that I won't vote for anyone on January 3rd that hasn't signed this pledge."
Candidates who sign the pledge are aligning themselves with President Ronald Reagan who declared “the unalienable personhood of every American, from the moment of conception until natural death” in his January 1988 Personhood Proclamation.
When asked about the pledge, former Presidential candidate and Iowa Caucus winner Mike Huckabee stated: “Believing that every human life, unborn and born, has intrinsic worth and equal value is the underpinning of our nation's moral core. As one who lived through the Jim Crow laws of the South and saw how people of color were treated as ‘less’ I am encouraged that the Personhood movement is reminding us that all people are deserving of the protections afforded us as human beings. We should never ask people to determine if one person is ‘more’ valuable than another because of wealth, appearance, IQ, ancestry, ethnic origin, or physical capacity. Attempts to dismiss the concept of Personhood will eventually be met with common sense and common decency. Until then, we must continue to speak out boldly for the rights of all to enjoy ‘life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.’"
Signers also affirm their support for “a human life amendment to the Constitution” and “endorse legislation to make it clear that 14th Amendment protections apply to unborn children.” Both are positions listed in the Republican Party Platform.
“There has been much speculation as to the candidate’s positions this election cycle,” said Personhood USA Legal Analyst Gualberto Garcia Jones, J.D. “This is an opportunity for the candidates to demonstrate their conviction as a President who will uphold the right to life of every person no matter their age or the circumstances of their creation.”
Personhood USA is a grassroots Christian organization founded to establish personhood efforts across America to create protection for every child by love and by law. Personhood USA is committed to assisting and supporting Personhood Legislation and Constitutional Amendments and building local pro-life organizations through raising awareness of the personhood of the preborn.

Right to life ? What about the right to decent food, shelter, education and medical care ? As long as there lots of women who are unable to provide these basic necessities for their children, born or unborn, abortion will be common in America.
The "personhood " pledge is disgustingly hypocritical. These are the same self-serving demagogues who don't want the government to do the right thing and provide the kind of help that poor women need to provide for their children because that would be "socialism".
So these idiots expect these poor women to bring up desperately children who
will never get decent nutrition, a decent education or a chance to succeed in life ?
And don't give the same old garbage about adoption. It's absolutely impossible to have every child born to poor women. We already have so many poor children waiting to be adopted , and the process is just to complicated and mired in red tape.
Look - if we want to do anything to prevent abortion we must see to it that the government agrees to allocate a heck of a lot more money to provide for poor children . There is no other way to reduce the abortion rate.
Personhood laws are a threat to America and the lives of poor women everywhere here. Because if the government makes abortion illegal again ,
back-alley abortionists will instantly appear, and they will do a brisk
business. No doubt organized crime will get involved and make a fortune
in the illegal abortion business , And more and more poor women will die from botched illegal abortions, leaving more and more children motherless .
The poorest women will try to abort themselves, virtually guaranteeing death.
There will be absolutely no way to enforce the law. And conservative Republicans will no doubt eliminate programs to help the poor, which will automatically make the abortion rate skyrocket.
If the government also makes contraceptives illegal, which many anti-choice idiots want, this will make things even worse, and a black market in illegal contraceptives will emerge instantly.
Personhood Schmersonhood ! Any one who signs the pledge is an imbecile !
Right to life ? What about the right to decent food, shelter, education and medical care ?
People have a right to food, shelter, education, and medical care? Are these rights universal (for all people at all times in all locations)? Where do these rights come from?
Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
Joh 4:23 "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.
If there is no right to decent food, shelter, education and medical care, the
government has ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT TO DEMAND THAT ALL PREGNANT WOMEN GIVE BIRTH .
No one has this right. Because if poor women are unable to provide these things for their children, they will inevitably seek and obtain abortions whether they are legal or not . Don't you dense anti9-choicers get this simple fact ?

Given that poor women (and men) can get all the birth control pills and condoms they want for free these days... most of the abortions (except for rape) are due to irresponsible behavior.. and abortions are expensive in comparison.
At what point does the government have the right to draw a line in the sand and make people responsible for their bad behavior?
Earlier I asked you where do rights come from. It appears as if they come from you by the way you are declaring what is or is not a right and demanding who or who shouldn't be allowed access to those rights.

There are a few problems with this. First of all, you can't impose a reinterpretation of the Constitution on the courts by legislation. Second, since the Fourteenth Amendment refers to "persons born", it clearly wasn't intended to settle a question about the meaning of persons nor does it apply, in the clearest reading, to people who aren't born. You can extend that by implication to birth equivalents such as C-sections, but you can't stretch it to mean conception when what it says and intends is clearly after that point. You simply can't bend the Constitution that far.

When will you get the simple fact that murder is more grievous than hunger? You place goverment programs and taking money from the rich above the sanctity of life.
