Was eating lunch with my 8-year-old granddaughter and I asked her, "What holiday is February 20th?" She said "It's President's Day!" She is a smart kid. So, I asked "What does President's Day mean?" I was waiting for something about Washington or Lincoln etc. She replied, "President's Day is when President Obama steps out of the White House, and if he sees his shadow we have one more year of unemployment." You know, it hurts when hot coffee spurts out your nose...

Sounds like you need to get your brilliant daughter a subscription- she could already take on the masses around this place!
My daughter is subscribed to TOL. She used to post on here when a lot of the younger crowd were still on (I think that most of them grew away from TOL, as they went on to college and life, in general). She decided that I'm to "close-minded" for her and that she wants to explore other avenues of faith.

That really confused me for a second, so I went back and re-read your OP. Allow me to rephrase- you should get your grand daughter a subscription here! And I will be praying for your daughter, BTW.

Often, the "away time" that some young person's take, eventually, leads back to a good place. I pray for you and yours! Blessings

Re-read the title, Mr. Deets. It's an e-mail I received from my mom. I don't have a granddaughter, yet. And, if my daughter were to come home with one (next month), I'd have to strangle her for not telling me about it.

I think she's talking about her mother's granddaughter, which would be her niece.

I really hope so, Bybee. She called me about three weeks ago, asking if she could move back home for six months to save money to move to Washington state. I told her, "No. You can move in for three months and save money to get your own apartment. You need to learn how to take care of yourself before you move two thousand miles away from me because I'm not going to send you money every month." At first, she was resistant to it. But, she realized that I'm not trying to control her life and that I just want to make sure that she doesn't fall flat on her face so far from me. At least, if she gets an apartment here, I'm close enough to help her out if she really needs it.
