Sounds good.

Maybe because there isn't a history of classifying childhood obesity as neglect or abuse.
Probably not. Depending on the extremity I think it could be though.

When the state controls the medical system, it can claim the right to dispense care as it sees fit. Watch the overweight get denied services as a result. The state can also claim control over the lifestyle of the insured, thereby infringing on his personal freedom.
What control over lifestyles?
Why would they get denied services?

If poverty leads to poor lunches or obesity, it could happen that children would be removed. I'm not saying you advocate for it, but I would like you to perhaps be concerned about the possibility.
Remember.......earlier I did say I am wary about government interference in what parents do.

Quote:
What else is it, then?
I think there are several factors. The cause of the obesity. The attitude of the parents.

Quote:
Would you have a bureaucrat to come in and help your parents do a better job?
No.

Quote:
Yes - I'm emotionally attached to my kids, and wouldn't take kindly to the state butting into my child-rearing decisions. Do you realize the historical novelty of it in this country? We already know what has taken place in totalitarian societies, where the state took the place of the parent.
Again, you speak as if I have advocated the government getting involved.

Quote:
They usually do.
OK.

No, of course not. But I would then determine how I would handle things with my child's doctor. At that point, it becomes my business, and not the school doctor's. Do you see the difference?
I never said it was the doctor's business. Why do you keep thinking I'm saying things I'm not. I guess I'm not being clear enough.

Quote:
I did what women have done for thousands of years. It came kind of naturally
Right......I was kind of thinking about what you feed after that period. What did you do once that was over?

Quote:
You said:

I said: Absolutely.

You said:

Thanks for the synopsis.

It's called freedom, kmo.
OK.

Quote:
Of course I would take all recommendations under advisement, but I'm not bound to obey them. That's why you can check out of the hospital against doctor's advice. Right?
I never said you were bound to obey them. You are free to make any decision you want. That doesn't mean your decision is necessarily the best for you, which is what we're talking about.

But you said you were take their guidance under advisement. Why? Because you trust them, right? They have lots of education and experience that gives them knowledge about health and diet, etc. They might know something you don't and it is smart to listen.

Quote:
Sorry.
I don't think you are.

Slow dancing in a burning room.

Don't tase me, bro!!
