Hmmm... whites subjegated a race for hundreds of years then oppress them for decades more...then use(d) such biased stats to justify their current prejudices. The only thing this leads to are the correlations regarding racial oppression to lack of opportunity to poverty and finally violence...not the race's inherent (unrealized) capacities.
Quip: I'm not arguing in favor of racism. My only point is that reasons can be given for the racist side. You don't have to be ignorant/stupid/irrational to be a racist. I myself was one. I wasn't stupid, ignorant or irrational.
If anything, it was, at least in part, good, solid reasons that I found from St. Bonaventure that brought me around. There were, I am sure, other factors.
But I do think that people tend to paint racists in too broad a stroke, even to the risk of dehumanizing racists. Racists are normal people...who have fallen into error and need correction.
In any case, there are two points:
1. Yes, it is worthwhile to mention that disparities like the ones I mentioned in the OP often are socio-economic (poor people tend to commit more crimes, be less educated, etc.).
2. But even then, that's only a negative claim. The reasons for being a racist may not be good ones. But that doesn't prove the claim: "All people have an intrinsic dignity and worth which is (at least roughly) equal, and that the only thing which can make one person better than another person is the way that he acts." This, to my mind, requires a proof.
