Isaiah 53:5 (NIV) But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.
I use the nkjv, but irregardless he paid the penalty (punishment) for our sin. The penalty is death.
Penalty and punishment are synonymous. For some reason these days people have decided they do not like the word punishment.

I think you are saying the wages of sin is death. Romans 6:23.

Some people just do not like certain words for some reason.
There is a context for each and every word used. Sometimes people put all their ideas together in their favorite word. Others try to interpret this and evaluate the meaning behind whatever word is being used.
Deuteronomy 10:12 (KJV) And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,

Tell me that isn't punishment?
Maybe not the way we think of punishment.
Deuteronomy 10:12 (KJV) And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,

This 'kingdom of heaven' and 'kingdom of God' prompted me to start looking for some information and I found this article "The "Kingdom of heaven" versus the "Kingdom of God"... Two kingdoms, or one?" that I found interesting if anybody is interested:

Angel4Truth,
You are looking at some important details. I am not an expert in these matters.

1 Thessalonians 4:17 --- Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
The word translated ‘caught up’ is ἁρπάζω: to grab or seize by force, with the purpose of removing and/or controlling—‘to seize, to snatch away, to take away.’
So, yes, I do believe that I will be seized, snatched away, or taken away from this earth to the air to meet the cloud of Saints, if I am then alive, and after that will be with the Lord forever.

Many say this is not the second coming. And you did not comment on those who are with Christ at his coming. I think there was a verse something like that.
Deuteronomy 10:12 (KJV) And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,

I personally do not believe this to be the Second Coming of Christ because of the word translated 'caught up' in the verse as I have provided the explanation in the previous post. I have this idea of hearing the Lord saying, "Come up hither." That's how I view this.

Same verse 1 Thessalonians 4:17 --- Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

My understanding is that they are the redeemed that had died already in the Lord and were already in Heaven with Him (absent the body, present with the Lord [2 Corinthians 5:8]).
