My creative (unorthodox) use of the quote box - May 1st, 2012, 02:06 PM

I have been accused of plagiarism due to the creative (unorthodox) manner in which I use the quote box without referencing who I'm quoting and due to the nature of the collaboration with my friend RLC whose initials you many have noticed periodically.

Sometimes I quote myself from earlier writings without putting my name in the box.
Sometimes I put my original stuff in the quote box just to offset it from the rest of the post.
Sometimes the piece is a mix of ideas and phrasing from my friend and myself but I don't mention him as per his wishes.
AND sometimes when I quote him directly in a significant piece, I name him but still keep his privacy though he doesn't like that I do this.

Now that I have been warned about just how such things can be misconstrued by an accusing spirit, I will tighten up my practice of using the quote box under rigid rules.

Peace to all, Ted

I think the only thing necessary is to give credit where it's due. If you quote someone from another post, use the quote buttons so their user name shows up. And if you quote someone from outside of TOL at least let us know it's another person, even if they want to stay anonymous.

I honestly and openly say that this is what I've been doing plus putting my own little essays into a quote box to set them apart.

sometimes ( I forget on which forums) I have written in the quote box, From a longer essay: with or without accreditation due to circumstances with my friend.

Some of our commumal stuff is so run together it is very hard to separte now, which is my problem to be honest and why I sometimes break his cover, so to speak, even thogh he is disatisfied with that.

what a mess <sigh>

Peace to all,

Ted

Instead of using the "quote" tag, try using the "box" tag.

See?

That way it doesn't necessarily mean you're quoting something, just that you're highlighting or separating it.

Neat 5020! Did your super secret undercover buddy teach you that? Mine is never much help.
