Let me ask you, did those before Jesus rely on themselves or God? They relied on God through blood sacrifices, they didn't rely on themselves. They tried to obey the law but they couldn't, which is why they needed the sacrifices. Same thing with Jesus, I rely on him because I can't be perfect. I rely on Jesus' sacrifice, the ultimate sacrifice for atonement of my sins.
