Unfortunately embarrassing Mr MuzicMan on his knowledge of Greek
Exclusively Christian TheologyThis forum is exclusively for those who consider themselves Christian and consider the Bible to be the inspired word of God.
No one cares. Stop starting stupid threads...and learn how to use the "QUOTE" button.
Don't you think it ironic that you are trying to present yourself as some sort of educated theologian and linguist yet you still don't know how to click a button that clearly spells out the word "QUOTE"?
I just read about your assessment of musicman and your concept of "born again" christians.
I would like to chide in about your assessment of it.
I dont believe Calvinists are born again Christians because Calvinism is based on John Calvin's doctrines.
Calvin was evil man and you guys follow his doctrines.
Truth is not in evil people.
Jesus says we know them by their fruit, yet you dont take heed of His wisdom.
Jesus' messages are not as complicated as Calvinst are making out to be;. all man-made doctrines are complicated and need a lot of explanation of them.
Some thing is very wrong about Calvinists and others who follow men other than Jesus.
This thread is not about Calvinism. Neither is it a message board to chase me down. If you want to address Calvinism, there are plenty of threads running about it at present.

While you're at it, do you think you could get John W to use the QUOTE tags also?
And then maybe get Nick M to quit making up fake quotes and making it appear as if the user actually said what Nick M makes up?
IMO, if people can't use the QUOTE function correctly they shouldn't be allowed to make posts. Same thing for those who misquote on purpose.
I have asked Colossians and John W over and over again to use the QUOTE function, however it hasn't worked.
Not long after I joined this forum I was the object of someone creating fake quotes of mine. I regarded it as a form of libel and misrepresentation and complained to the mods. However, the mods did nothing about it and when this happened a few more times, I decided it was a good way of bringing people to their senses. In effect I said that if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
However, it is still quite rarely that I do such a thing.
I've also occasionally complained about spamming and other such things that are against the rules of the forum but have not had a single response and it seems to me generally that the mods are not really interested in this sort of thing. If the mods took a clear stand on the matter I would gladly follow suit. So long as the board works generally well, I suggest you have to live with it.
Total Misanthropy. Uncertain salvation. Luck of the draw. Irresistible damnation. Persecution of the saints.
Mr Muzic has long ago read post 15 which clearly puts his ideas on Rev 13:8 to bed.
He chose not to respond and to disappear, for he knew he was in over his head, and that his academic level was exposed in his failing to properly digest what his own source was actually saying.
I therefore have bumped this thread so that we will rub salt into his wounds. I have no respect for a 'blue-collar academic' come confidence man, masquerading as someone learned.
Post 15 stands: the rendering of Rev 13:8 is not
"names written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the lamb slain"
but
"names written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world"
In line with Mr Muzic's inimitable style where he types on the run in a whirlwind of synthetic confidence, pretending to his audience that he has it all in hand and that even if they don't follow his idea they can nevertheless trust him, he will no doubt surface again here.
But he simply won't be able to refute post 15, which is why he chose to disappear in the first place.
Of course if he doesn't resurface, then well and good.
In either case, he loses: his knowledge of Greek is in fact amateurish, being not tempered by a proper understanding of broader linguistic and grammatical principles.
Here we see a verse from the book of Revelation where it is the names of people which "were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world":
"The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is" (Rev.17:8; KJV).
That matches perfectly with the following translation:
"All who dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slain" (Rev.13:8; NASB).
So if this translation cannot be the correct one then please tell me why not.
