(I guess it's only "Stand Your Ground" law if you are white.)
Blacks are 14% of America's population, and 40% of the prison population.
Our criminal justice system is systemically racist nation wide. And this isn't based on anecdotal evidence.
Bull...this is a product of the same type of overzealous prosecution that the stand your ground laws were enacted to attempt to guard against. You will notice that Corey is the Prosecutor here also. To charge this woman as she was is just as much of a miscarridge of justice as the murder charge against Zimmerman. I agree we have issues to be addressed here (much more than just one) but insistutional rascism is not one of them. If you want to start pulling that card then go play with Sharpton.

To my mind it is wholly irresponsible to go into the world incapable of preventing violence, injury, crime, and death. How feeble is the mindset to accept defenselessness. How unnatural. How cheap. How cowardly. How pathetic.

Nice try...get with the program and stick with the situation you raised. If you can't properly discern this situation then you are hardly equipped to judge others which may or may not be caused by institutional racism, minimum mandatory issues, corrupt officials, overzealous prosecution, rediculous/outdated laws or any other numerous issues which reside in the American Injustice System.

A medical report compiled by the family physician of accused Trayvon Martin murderer George Zimmerman and obtained exclusively by ABC News found that Zimmerman was diagnosed with a "closed fracture" of his nose, a pair of black eyes, two lacerations to the back of his head and a minor back injury the day after he fatally shot Martin....
The record shows that Zimmerman also suffered bruising in the upper lip and cheek and lower back pain. The two lacerations on the back of his head, one of them nearly an inch long, the other about a quarter-inch long, were first revealed in photos obtained exclusively by ABC News last month.

And if someone follows you and confronts you, with a gun, does not identify himself, are you not going to fight back?
Stand your ground means Treyvon should have been able to use deadly force if HE felt threatened. And this is the problem with laws like this, one of the two people is dead. Why should you assume the unarmed dead person is in the wrong, even if the other person is beaten up? Nobody should have ended up dead in this situation.

Exactly. Zimmerman picked a fight and got in over his head (which I've said since, what, the very beginning?) This sends a message to cowboys, buttheads, thugs, and self-appointed heroes and bullies the world over: start a fight, and you can always finish it with a gun if the guy you provoke happens to get the upper hand.
How manly. How tough. How impressive.

Stand your ground is one thing. It's necessity is not necearrily invalidated by this situation, imho. However, the facts remain that Mr. Zimmerman was apparently "self-appointed" for this duty and he DIRECTLY DISOBEYED ORDERS FROM THE POLICE DISPATCHER.
Therein, I believe, lies the crux of the situation.

And the only reason we know he did this is he called 911. What do you think happens in the 20 other instances where there's no 911 record of one person harassing or chasing the other and one person ends up dead? The dead person can't testify as to what happened. By allowing a stand your ground defense you give the shooter the benefit of the doubt and allow people to essentially go out and shoot someone with little risk to yourself of prosecution. I'm not against gun rights but giving people a license to kill is nuts.
