Make it just as hard and expensive to get married as it is to get divorced... problem solved.

Make the wedding license cost say 100k and 500 hours of community service each?

It would just increase the rate of "pre marital sex" since a legal marriage would be impossible to achive, it would soon become irrelavent unless there were some VERY tangible benifits that came with that 100k, like all legally married couples were introduced into the 1% club and you got a cush office job for 250k a year, then I would call 100k upfront investment a good deal.

Any institution or organization that institues rules and costs where the benifits dont significantly outweight thoes costs will make themselves irrelavent. Here in the USA there are fewer and fewer true investments that yeild any meaningful rate of return, most things in the USA are liabilities, even religion and churchs and people are waking up to that fact.

Marriages with less divorce among Christians - May 15th, 2012, 06:22 AM

The rest of the world is going to continue to divorce and kill its babies and generally burn the road straight to their own destruction.

#1 - recognize God puts together marriages, not people.
#2 - recognize God separates, not people
#3 - recognize marriage is patterned after Christ and His church and between Father Spirit and Son. As such, marriage is a witness to God's design and the foundation of the family unit (the strongest social bond on earth).
#4 - allow one another mistakes and love one another deeply - if you cannot unconditionally love your spouse, I doubt you can love the rest of us in the BoC.

There will never be anything about my wife I don't love about her, nor any fault that will cause a problem my vow isn't capable of keeping. Part of this is in the vows we made to each other and God not to break them.
#5 - the bright-side - it isn't that I can't get divorced, it is that I get to stay married. There is a joy about Christ never letting us go, that invades my marriage also.

is this a list of reasons why banning divorce is good? However if the couple fall out and no longer get along? what is the benefit or forcing them to stay married?


Also marriage has been around before Christianity and before Jesus, it is not an entirely Christian institution

#1 God does not put marriages together. People make bad decisions based on lust, infatuation, and other selfish desires when deciding to get married. All of which God does not approve.

#2 I think its ironic that Christians would somehow think that God would hold anyone to a lifetime of misery for a single bad decision. Thank goodness he does not treat us the way we treat ourselves.

In christian circles we need to De-emphasize marriage and encourage service. Paul and other disciples had a dim view on marriage... marriage was a last resort to weak people.

So we have less marriages hence we have less divorce.

It is one way to look at it. I am convinced some people are made for marriage and others are called to a single life. It depends on how one is made.

Pleanty of other religions have marraige though, i dont think that secular laws on marriage should be decided by the Christian interpretation. I believe it should be left up to each religious institution to decide their approach to marriage. The government should not be making these decisions

I see many places in the OT where 2 people of the same sex having sex is prohibited. I suspect there are sanitary issues at play in those passages. But I do not see any verses that prohibit same sex marriage.
