The pope... and St Mt 16:18 - May 17th, 2012, 04:20 PM

the psg means pretty much what it says, as many passages in the Word do

You are chosen, Peter

I will change your name (something that was done in OT times to signify a BIG change... an important office is being bestowed on someone)

you will be the earthly head of the Church

and all popes who follow you will be the same

and i will protect this Church of mine from teaching error...

and the powers of Satan himself will not prevail against my Church

Here's an excellent article on the subject, which even quotes several prominent Evangelical Protestants in favor of the fact that Jesus' reference to "this Rock" is directed specifically to Peter:
"St. Peter, the Rock, the Keys, & the Primacy of Rome in the Early Church"

The Rock upon which the Church is built is Christ . It is not built upon man.

Already directly refuted in Post #3 (the second part of your statement, that is).

There is no record of Peter going to Rome.

There is no record that Peter was a pope.

More Catholic fantasy.

I wonder why this statement doesn't appear in ANY OTHER GOSPEL.

It must not be important.

Peter was a Judas anyhow.

Post 2, it's too long and lengthy a cut and paste to look for the answer. Be more specific.
