For the first time in American history, a majority of Americans are O.K. with same-sex marriage.

just don't ask them to vote on it
That comes later, just as people were for equal rights for blacks in polls, earlier than they would actually vote for it. But it's coming. That's how it works.

Ironic, isn't it?

Christian Post: African-American Pastors Call on Obama to Reconsider Gay Marriage Stance
"A group of influential black ministers – some of whom are connected with the fifth largest denomination in the U.S. – gathered Thursday in one of the nation's most famous civil rights cities to ask President Obama to reverse his stance on same-sex marriage.
More than a dozen pastors from the Coalition of African American Pastors joined in Memphis, Tenn., to speak out against Obama's support for gay marriage and to oppose the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community's "hijacking" of the civil rights movement.
"Same-sex marriage I think, it's an abomination before God. It's a sin before God," said the Rev.Robert Morris, acting minister of New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ, according to Fox 13 News. "I don't see how anyone can compare that with civil rights."
... The black ministers who came together represent a wide spectrum of religious and political beliefs and many of the pastors have been ardent supporters of President Obama and Democratic causes. But same-sex marriage is where they draw the line.
Owens told The Christian Post that they are "very disappointed" in Obama's newly pronounced support for gay marriage.
"We ask President Obama to stand with the black church, on the Word of God and evolve again back to the common sense biblical view that marriage is the union of husband and wife," he said." http://www.nomblog.com/23380/

Preserve Marriage -
Given that the majority of young Americans are comfortable with "gay marriages, this issue will go the same way as opposition to "interracial marriages" went a generation ago.
The next generation of Americans will be questioning why this was ever considered a political issue!
In a nation where there is separation of Church and State, its not the government's responsibility to limit what constitutes a marriage between 2 consenting adults.

Without a doubt, many of today's youth have been indoctrinated by our leftist education system, the media and culture.
I do get inspired however when I go to a pro life rally or pro marriage rally and see the amount of youth there.
God works in wonderful ways.

It's a shame that we so unfairly mix, mingle, confuse or 'copulate' the Kingdom of God with the Common Wealth; Church Religion and State Goverment.
It would be to our intelectual advatage to re-educate ourselfves to think in context and purpose.
Marriage is a Word of an obvious and meritorious Christian origin and it is alusive to the 'Sacred Family' based on Mary's Matriarchal Eminence.
This is the Core of the Xstian family and this kind of Marriage is santioned by the Church as a whole.
The same sex Civil Unions are santioned by the State of the Union witnin which they are performed and allowed.
The State of the Union ultimately has civil law authority over both; the Church has Spiritual Authority over Marriage only, not over a civil union.
If one claims to be a Xstian one must be a sinner first; and always be in the present progressive process of redemption of the Grace of God by faith alone.
This means that you are only a Believing Sinner among many. Also remember that the world is full of unbelieving sinners and that you must live among them as a 'sinner in process of forgiveness'.
If you can not for-give a given 'trangression' against you or your neighbor then, perhaps you do not need God's Grace or Christ's Under-standing to achieve it, if at all.
Think of the moral paradoxes of Rahab in Joshua, or the very Mariah of Magdala.
What if it is finally proven to the world that Jesus and Mariah 'became one' and that the left Israel for India or France.
Jesus survived the Cross, but then how does one explain vv. 9 in The Acts of the Apostles ?
Could it be that Jesus did pass; if this is the case He simply survived the punishment of the Cross, only to die 'forty' days later.
Personaly. I like the theory that vv. 9 was literary dressing written to allow Jesus and Mariah to leave Israel.
But that's just me.
It's a shame that we so unfairly mix, mingle, confuse or 'copulate' the Kingdom of God with the Common Wealth; Church Religion and State Goverment.
What's really shameful is that you don't read the Bible Cat. God abhors sinful behavior and wants all sinners to repent. Homosexuality is mentioned/referred to in both the Old and New Testament at least a dozen times, and never in a positive light.

I'm interested in knowing what the term "traditional marriage" actually means. Traditionally, marriage often consisted of polygamy, marrying the widow of your brother, women not being able to own property, permitting marital rape and killing one's own children. Some of these things were legally allowed until fairly recently, so its not all ancient history.
How about a sugar daddy/trophy wife marriage? Is that traditional? It's not based on love or God. When you get down to it, "traditional marriage" is just a term used by those who don't like gay people but want to sound high and mighty.

It happens to be a fact: Majority of Americans support legalizing same-sex marriage, poll shows
A majority of Americans — 54% — say same-sex marriages should be legally recognized, while 42% are opposed, according to a CNN/ORC International Survey released Wednesday.
The poll showed a sharp partisan divide on the issue, with seven in 10 Democrats as well as six in 10 independent voters saying same-sex marriages should be legal, and 72% of Republicans opposed. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/m...101314711.html

Apparently not. Most schoolkids are capable of handling the concept that one might not approve of something one recognizes as true. If you've been around TOL at all, you'd know that I have several times stated that I think marriage is a union of a man and a woman. My opinion is that if bigots hadn't kept homosexuals from some kind of civil union that gave them the same benefits without marriage, that would have been the end of the issue.
But that behavior eventually led to public acceptance of same-sex marriage. Thanks a lot, guys.
And yes, blacks are often more culturally conservative than people generally. If the republicans weren't so hostile to them, they'd mostly be republicans.

When you say "them", are you talking about sinners in general, or since this thread is about homosexuality, are you talking about homosexuals not repenting?
So what is done with murderers, rapists and armed robbers? (I would have said child molesters, but few homosexuals are going to jail for having sex with children these days, Jerry Sandusky is the exception).
Laws are made so that those particular sins are prohibited and those that partake in them are punished and thus in the long run helped.
The same should be done with homosexuality.

If murdering children and spousal rape are "traditional" in the circles that you run in aloofman, I'd highly recommend that you find a new circle.
The Preserve Marriage Washington website describes why traditional marriage (one man, one woman, procreating and raising children) is important.
"Marriage is a special relationship reserved exclusively for heterosexual unions because only the intimate relationship between men and women has the ability to produce children as a result of that sexual union. The marriage relationship is inherently different than a same-sex relationship in this important regard.
Marriage serves a vital and universal societal purpose - to channel biological drive and sexual passion that might otherwise become socially destructive into enduring family units that have the best opportunity to ensure the care and education of any children produced by that biological drive and sexual passion. Indeed, the United States Supreme Court has said that marriage is, 'fundamental to the very existence and survival of the [human] race.'
By encouraging men and women to marry, society helps ensure that children will be known by and cared for by their parents. Men, especially, are encouraged to take responsibility for their children through the institution of marriage. Marriage is society's mechanism of increasing the likelihood that children will be born and raised by the two people responsible for bringing them into the world - their mother and father." http://preservemarriagewashington.com/marriage.php
