Does God offer salvation? - June 5th, 2012, 06:24 PM

Note: this thread is in the Exclusively Christian Theology forum but all serious replies to the question will be considered. Thank you.

Does God offer salvation?
I have heard that God offers salvation and all we have to do is accept God's offer.
I have tried to find the Bible verses that support these statements, but whenever I look for offer and accept in the Bible, it is man offering to God and God accepting.

Here are a couple of overviews I found on the subject, but I am looking for more in-depth study on the question.

God Offers Salvation

NOOO!! – The word “OFFER” is not in the Book in that sense. To the contrary, Jesus Died, - was crucified, and was buried, and was resurrected!! ( “That’s” not offering anything ). That is called a Cup that we all MUST drink. - The Prophets of Christ are told to PREACH the Gospel. ( That’s not an offering either ). Any lost person hearing the Gospel and is pricked in his heart, and is baptized, shall be saved. – ( There is NO OFFERING IN ANYTHING OF THE GOSPEL. Only the preaching of it. – That is called “The Calling”. - We are Called by the Gospel, not offered anything. It’s true, if one obeys the Gospel, he receives Christ which is our Eternal Life. God does not offer it, man “TOOK” THE LIFE OF CHRIST, and Christ has made a “WAY” for that sinner to be REDEEMED. - There is still no “OFFERING”. – One either has Faith, or he does not have Faith. - Faith is “NOT OFFERED”. One just believes what is PREACHED, or he does not.

So you do not believe that Ephesians 2:8-9 is an offer of salvation through the grace of God?

No, not the God I serve, the God of Heaven and Earth. He gives Salvation to His People as a Free Gift of His Grace !

Rom 2:28-29

28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Is it offered to all or just given to the elect?

Doesn't the gift have to offered to be taken?

You probably mean this verse.

Ro 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Mr 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;

Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,

that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

PS. The word "offer" occurs 213 times in the bible.

BUT you have to do some Work to get the Bonuses.

1Jo 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
1Jo 5:5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
Re 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
Re 2:11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
Re 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
Re 2:26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
Re 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
Re 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
Re 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
Re 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

Hebrews 10:10 (KJV)By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Hebrews 10:14 (KJV)For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

Hebrews 10:18 (KJV)Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

Jesus Christ, the sinless Lamb of God "offered" Himself as the FINAL sacrifice for sin.

Eternal life (salvation) is a gift.

Romans 6:23 (KJV)For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

It doesn't SAY that it is. It doesn't even say that it's a reword, but it's more of a reword if it's anything, but God doesn't say that it's either, so neither do I, but YOU must, I suppose.

The old Latin word "offero" means to "announce or proclaim."

The gospel is proclaimed ("offero"), as divinely objective truth presented to the world . . . but the gospel is NOT put forth as theory that only has value if it is subjectively "accepted."

Nang

"The immutable God never learned anything and never changed his mind. He knew everything from eternity."

"Experience teaches us nothing; revelation teaches all we need to know."

“ Those who proclaim that the sovereignty of God determines what justice is, (do so) by observing what God actually does. Whatever God does is just.”

Linda . . .

There is a difference between offerings made by men and Jesus Christ before God, and God making proclamation ("offero") of His gospel of grace to men.

The gift has to be purposefully proclaimed and revealed before it is given.
