Except ... the pitcher plant could still have been planted by the weekend plant guy. The regular guy has been out for two months, and likely has been unable to do any ordering. The weekend guy takes it upon himself to order new plants, and makes a major mistake in plant selection.
A woman has just switched jobs, and with the change in jobs, she has changed healthcare providers. The new healthcare provider doesn't cover the doctor that she's been seeing; therefore, today, she is visiting a new doctor for the first time.
Amazingly, however, when she walks up to the counter, the secretary immediately seems to recognize her. Much to our woman's surprise, the secretary immediately pulls up a file and starts asking her about how her husband and children are doing.
But just as a security measure, of course, the secretary asks our protagonist what her date of birth is. Giving her date of birth, the secretary tells our woman to have a seat.
Even more amazingly, a few moments later, the nurse comes to take her to the doctor's office. Even the doctor seems to recognize her. He says: "Alright, Mrs. Hutchenson, are you ready for your checkup?"
"But I'm not Mrs. Hutchenson," she replies: "I'm Mrs. Pennywinkles!"

The problem is a case of mistaken identity, where a woman on her first visit to a Doctors office and is mistaken for another woman that has been there often enough to be recognized by sight.
Mrs. Pennywinkles looks very similar to Mrs. Hutchenson and even has the same date of birth.
This happens quite frequently for identical twins, but can sometimes happen for fraternal twins or other forms of multiple births.
Most people with an identical twin know about it, but sometimes the twins are separated early enough that they do not remember each other, and some of the twins that are separated are not told about their identical twin.
So, the first solution to come to mind is that Mrs. Pennywinkles has an identical twin, but was separated from her twin at an early age and the people that raised her did not tell her about her twin.

Yes, that could have happened, as long as the plants ordered arrived already mature enough to trap insects, but when I worked as a landscaping assistant, the plants ordered by the landscaper were all young plants that required some time to mature. Giving the plants enough time to mature before they started catching insects is the main reason I thought that the plants had been ordered and planted prior to the veteran plant guy going in for surgery, but it was so obvious to me that I forgot to mention it.

GO, either my problems are too easy or you are more clever than I thought you to be.

Against Tambora: the lady in question clearly is surprised at all the apparent recognition she is receiving. Were it but a change in last names, she would have expected to be recognized.

Against genuineoriginal:
This answer does not work because of the way that doctor's offices are run. The secretary at the doctor's office has a list of the people sheduled for appointments each day, and Mrs. Hutchenson was scheduled for a checkup for the day and time that Mrs. Pennywinkles showed up for an appointment. There is no indication in the problem that two identical looking people showed up for appointments at the same time, so Mrs. Pennywinkles must be there for Mrs. Hutchenson's appointment.

What's going on?
The problem is about a woman who doesn't remember her name and recent events.
Mrs. Hutchenson had to switch doctors because of a change in health insurance. In order to see the new doctor, she had to sign a release of information so her file could be obtained from the previous doctor. The medical file contains her picture, which turned out to be a good enough likeness of her that she was instantly recognizable to both the secretary who was looking at her file and the doctor who had looked at it earlier to prepare for the meeting. Additionally, the secretary recognized Mrs. Hutchenson from their prior meeting when Mrs. Hutchenson came in to make the appointment for the checkup and fill out the release of information form, and the two probably talked about Mrs. Hutchenson's husband and children during their conversation at that meeting.
Mrs. Hutchenson is most likely suffering from a case of amnesia or early onset Alzheimer's, which can develop in people who are in their 30s or 40s. Mrs. Hutchenson is able to clearly remember her early life when she was Mrs. Pennywinkles, but is not able to clearly remember her later life when she is married to Mr. Hutchenson. The doctor's visit was a checkup on an existing condition by a new doctor.
