I think I would want Durant. LeBron does just about everything better, but not so much better that it makes the choice easy. The thing that makes Durant more appealing to me is his shooting from all areas of the floor. He is a more natural scorer. He shoots the ball better from three and from the free throw line. I also think he is better late in games than LeBron (but I don't think LeBron is as bad as most people think he is late in games).
Am I wrong to say that LeBron is to Magic as Durant is to Bird?

I would take Durant but I am rooting for the Heat because I am a Wade fan. He played for Marquette so I have followed him since college.
Go Heat!
Individually though, Durant is the superstar of the NBA and will be for a long time.

NO!!!!!! LeBron and Miami
I really like Durant and would love to see him get a ring. I also really don't like James and Miami so I would equally love to see them fail again.
As for the thread's question....Durant. But it's very tough and I won't lie that part of my reasoning is that I just don't like LeBron much at all and I really like Durant. Durant seems like a really good guy, on and off the court. James seems like a jerk. But I do think Durant is a better teammate which is a legitimate basketball reason.
SoJ, I agree with you that Durant is the better shooter/scorer but James is better in most other things. James is so versatile. He can do everything and his size and speed make him practically unstoppable. His shooting is good enough that you can't just let him take jumpers.
I've also heard the Magic-James comparison. I can't recall hearing the Bird-Durant comparison. I don't know as much about Bird.
LeBron. The numbers are close, but James has a better frame and better court awareness. He's a stronger defender in the post and a better (and more frequent) passer.
But who knows? Two great players. Let's see about longevity and production over that time.

This.
Even though Durant handles pressure better and has a better hair line, you can't deny Lebron is a better overall player while KD is a better scorer. Also, Lebron has a better wingman in Dwyane Wade. OKC will lose this finals because of Westbrook.

You'd think the last would have more influence with me, but no.

Sounds about right. Not a great deal of difference, though I still want a larger body of work from KD.

Westbrook is clueless. He's shooting 40% and taking more shots than the fellow making 59% of his shots and he says he's not changing his game and that the criticism just shows he's doing something right...clueless, selfish and someone who needs to be somewhere else if Oklahoma wants a sustained dynasty.

I agree with you guys on Westbrook. Though, I think Harden does similar things, in trying to do too much himself. When I watch the Thunder I'm usually thinking to myself why Durant doesn't get the ball more. They are talented but need to make better decisions.

The question being asked is who would one want for the next 10 years. I seriously doubt LeBron will be playing in the NBA 10 years from now at age 37/38. Or if he is, it will be at a greatly reduced level. Durant is only 23, Lebron 27. That is a significant factor. NBA players typically peak in their late 20's. LeBron has a large muscular body (listed at 6'8", 250 lbs), the type that doesn't typically age well in terms on playing in the NBA. How old is 37 in terms of the NBA? Kobe Bryant, who already has 16 years in the NBA, doesn't turn 37 for another three years. And Bryant is already in his decline phase of his career. I suspect Kobe may be out of the NBA by age 37. There's been recent study that shows when NBA players reach roughly 37,000 career minutes their production decline significantly. LeBron already has played 27,497 minutes in his career, not including the playoffs. When LeBron enters his decline phase, Durant will be in the middle his prime. I'd take Durant going forward.

LeBron is still king it seems....for now.
Next 10 years....Durant FTW!

You know what? Westbrook's attitude reminds me of Allen Iverson's only I don't think he is as talented.
I think that some of the analysts on EPSN are right. He shouldn't be playing the point.
Actually I think Westbrook is probably a better athlete than Iverson ever was. He's bigger, better built, and probably a little better shooter. He is definitely a better finisher. He's also a better passer and rebounder. I'd take him over Iverson any day.
BUT, I agree that he lacks in the basketball IQ area. He just doesn't seem to get it. That said, he is very, very young and has the potential to grow substantially and round out his game nicely....or because the next Stephon Marbury.
