The reason why the Jews were told to kill everybody was to eliminate the seed of those who were their sworn lifetime enemies. King Saul was told to kill everyone of the Amalekites, however, he disobeyed by leaving their King alive whom he brought back alive before the prophet Samuel hacked him into little pieces.

Unfortunately before Samuel did that King Amalek was allowed to continue his seed because we read later in the book of Esther were Hammon who contrived to kill Mordecai was descended from King Amalek

The OT is an allegory and filled with metaphors for help in understanding the NT. All things of the flesh are to be eliminated and the tribes and people who Israel was told to utterly destroy and leave no one alive were all born outside the linage of Israel.

In the same manner we are to destroy the old man of the flesh so that nothing earthly remains in us. This is why they had a law against men not masturbating and letting their seed fall upon the earth. The earth is what the dust comes from that makes up our flesh, consequently the prophecy within that law should not be hard to see.

For the hard of hearing the allegory and prophecy was the followers of God are not to give life to the flesh.

I realize that the events in the Old Testament are allegories and metaphors whose purpose is to serve to edify us. However that is to teach us about that what is yet to come. To just take the position that all those events never happened, and the the prophets never lived, or Israel was never under bondage to Egypt, is not prudent.
