It doesn't! The Messiah Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem as was prophesied.

"But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting" (Micah 5:2).

"After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem" (Matthew 2:1).

Many people were confused because Jesus was raised in Nazareth and assumed he was born there. They knew scripture read that the Messiah would be born/come from Bethlehem.

"Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet. Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee? Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?" (John 7:40-42).
SCHOOLED!

i am just trying to make the point that Nazareth is not mentioned in the OT

and St Paul mentions something (can't recall what) in the NT that is NOT mentioned in the OT

but in the NT there are references to things in the "Scriptures"

these things refer back to the old testamnt

so... if we are to go by Scirtpre alone... as some nonCatholics say

the scritpure Jesus referred to was the OT

so by that logic we should accept only the OT

but in fact many protestants want to dispense w/ the OT altogether...

Never heard that from a protestant... and I've been one for 51 years.

And I have been through 8-9 denominations as my family moved around.. from reformed baptist to evangelical friends to fundamental to reformed Presbyterian.

Never once did I ever hear that even suggested.
