If I said, the old first had to be manifestly completed; finished before God could institute a new “Law”, would that violate anyone’s scriptural sensibilities? I hope not.

Rom 4:13 "For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, [was] not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith"__ which fulfilled the old by the birth, earthly life and death of Jesus Christ, that by His righteous allegiance only, could it be done away that the new could ever be established and it would be by the "lamb of God" whose pieces He would, symbolically, walk through, once and for all. Jesus was that righteous sacrifice if we can see He perfectly demonstrated the old which was purposed, not for salvation but, for relationship, faith being the key to justification. cf Ro 5:1. We know all that got turned by the Jews to mean a “works” related issue, now carried over into cult religion.
I see Jesus relating to God in this in such a way that when Paul wrote this: “Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church” Colossians 1:24 (KJV) I can understand the privilege he ‘enjoyed’ by his indebtedness to the Greeks and barbarians. Sounds a little oxymoronic here but I’m working on a better explanation that the next time I might be more clear.

I now know that to take up my cross and follow Jesus, it can only by joy that I do so. The joy being realized by being united in Him and the Will of the Father.
