Don't you know
That it ain't a crime

And the junkmen
Think you're out of line
I'm much more of the mind that our values, our constitutions(as much us brits have one) and our morality are what save us from a government oppression.
I see little or no reason to think that soldiers who have sworn and pledge to defend a country, a people and its freedoms will turn on it.
Western democracies have armed forces which are loyal to the constitution, the people and the principles of democracy, not a party, ruler or power structure. This makes us very safe from what some nuts which guns stay up at night worrying about.

Because they hate you and want to kill you. I mean you ... specifically.

Homeland Security has already fingered the red neck western states as the terrorist group they fear most.
These paramilitary organization do have armoured vests and the kind of equipment that the Syrians wish they had had..
When the economy crashes, the inner cities are ready to riot and the political apparatus of 50 Czars set up by Obama are essential jands free to support these loal Obamacrats along withthe communist minded friend and Unions who installed Hitler in 1933.
All that is needed is an "emergency" and the constitution can be set aside as long as enforcement is in the hands of Janet Reno and he higher ups.
This may well happen whether Obama wins this election and then moves more slowly to do this, or loses this election and goes back to Community Organizing during the Lame Duck 3 months.

I honestly can't decide which is more amusing to me; their paranoia or your naivety.

Name one western democracy that has turned on its people as suggested in the last 60 years?
I'd have concern if I was Russian at the moment, but I don't think democracy ever really got going there. Even most of the former soviet block in Europe are very stable democracies at this point.
I'm willing to disagree with your founding fathers regarding guns, but generally I think they got an awful lot right and can't see how with you separation of powers, and federal system how anyone branch of government could takeover.

Homeland Security posted a list that showed were they were in the USA.
It was a lot.
\But they could be bands of a few guys, or maybe, all tied together by internet???
Bevertheless, that shooting of the sikis last week was one of their actions, against muslims, they thought.
They are so predujice that they just lump "different" into one catagory,... "muslim/Jew" I guess.

That is tough since you said 60 years...
The last time a demicracy fell to the crumblingly socialism that had thrown Germany into massive debt, destroyed the economy, caused political grid lock with the Gays, women, and Unions on one side, and the military, Big Business, and Hitler on the other side was in 1933.
Survival had become the issue, and the Gays, women, and Unions would not budge.
wow ...erm maybe your view of history is biased by the vileness and paranoia you wish to spew forth.
Any mention of the treaty of versai and the general depression ..nope.
You also move towards being a Hitler apologist here. Is that where you want to be ?

More than you would imagine, these men have sworn an oath to defend our Nation from enemies both foreign and domestic and will be operating with information passed down from the government. They will follow their orders until they have reason to believe otherwise.
Communication, the flow of information is the key to how long this would sustain itself if it were to start.
Our men in the service believe that they are defending her people from a possible over throw of our way of life and will do so until information/intelligence comes to light to change that belief.
I personally do not believe it could happen on a large scale but would not be surprised if a few small scale incidents may occur one day in our future, really depends on the over all stability of our people.

To reinforce what some have said, it's not about the millitary "attacking" us. It's about the coming collapse, rioting in the streets, and the military enforcing martial law. As such, it's a defensivie posture, much different than attacking granny.
Even so, military policing allows for suspension of the Constitution and totalitarian control.

I'd be willing to bet that you would probably have said the same thing regarding our system if it were 1790 and I described the present system we have to you.
