I watched this video expecting to hear something devastating to Romney's presidential aspirations, but after I watched it, I was left thinking, "So what?"
First off, Romney wasn't talking about "
slave labor". Cheap labor, yes, but not slave labor. He explicitly stated that these Chinese girls got paid and went home for the Chinese new year and a percentage of them don't come back for work after the holiday because they figure they've saved up enough money. That doen't sound like "slave labor" to me. Slaves don't get paid enough to save up a meaningful amount and they don't have the choice to quit.
Secondly, every consumer in America (and most of the world) profits off of cheap Chinese labor, yourself included. That relatively inexpensive computer you used to post this thread was probably "made in China". The Chinese people have come a long way from being mostly dirt poor peasants just a generation or two ago. Sure, conditions still need improving for them, and it is improving and will continue to do so in the future. But progress is being made, both there and elsewhere around the world. Transition and progress takes time, and we need to have a little patience, because it is happening.
