Privileges are age based because we KNOW that children and young teens do not have the same maturity and mental capacity to discern things the same manner as adults.
Again, based on your own argument, a two year old that leaves one of his toys on a staircase and causes another family member or guest in the home to fall to their death should be tried for second degree murder or manslaughter.

Is it deplorable for a kid to back-talk an authority figure? A kid can get backhanded for doing that, but if said authority figure tries it with an adult he's liable to have a fight on his hands.
I remember when I went off on a judge from the state supreme court when he was trying to boss some folks around. When he tried to pull rank on me, I loudly reminded him that his authority stopped at the courtroom door, and that out in the real world he was just another fat, pompous idiot.
His face turned purple, he was so angry.

No one will openly admit this but the results speak for themselves.
You get better results if you catch the bully in an alley one Saturday night and beat him senseless with a shovel handle.
It certainly worked for me: after he got out of the hospital two weeks later, word got around and for some odd reason nobody ever bothered me again...

Making that schoolyard "code of silence" work for you. There's a kid like that in my school. Supposedly, if you give him a hard time, he'll wait for the right day, and hit you from the blind side. Not big, not strong, but people are afraid of him, and leave him alone. He's good with that.

Yep, it worked for me, but I don't like to bore people with Tales From My Misspent Youth...

After getting beat up a few times a lot of us little guys learned that while in school, show no fear and drop the sucker before he knows what's going on, they seldom come back for a repeat.

It's actually not but whatever, I am referring to a kid shooting someone
