But if I read the book it'd be with the awareness that the guy did what he did to sell a book. And so I'd have, I think, a healthier awareness that it was written to sell...rather than that other thing.

I only hope that those that are harboring their desire for bestiality and incest (two other sexual sins that God abhors) come out as well. After all, the world would be a better place with less "bestialphobes" and "incestualphobes".

I agree that it could be interesting. I have to say I'm a bit skeptical though. A "self-described" homophobic Christian. I'd be interested to know more about his upbringing and what he actually believed prior to his experiment. His friend coming out beforehand might have been a reasonable trigger for him to start considering all this. If everything is true, then wow.
Maybe he actually was gay and tried coming out for real, but after a year decided he wasn't gay anymore or just wants to go back into the closet and is now saying it was all a big experiment and wants to make money off it.
I bet his motivation runs a lot deeper than just curiosity. If you consider the shock and awe it would put everyone in that are part of his life, I don't think it's something you just do on a whim. I also don't know many homophobes that would label themselves homophobic, unless he is talking about it in the past tense. They always try to justify it by some means. I'm more inclined to agree with the first part of your second paragraph than I am he was just curious or looking to make a quick buck, which might be too cynical of an opinion. Who knows though .
