Survey says, stop watching cable news

The good folks at Poynter flag this Public Mind poll from Fairleigh Dickinson University, which finds that those who listen exclusively to NPR are the most-well informed on current events, while those who only watch Fox News are the least informed. In fact, those who have no news intake at all are better informed than those who only watch Fox News. Surprise, surprise. (Send hate mail to

But the more interesting finding, as far as I'm concerned, is this: People who only watch a Sunday morning news show are likely to be better informed than people who only watch CNN, MSNBC, or Fox News, and better informed than those who only watch "The Daily Show" or only listen to talk radio.
In other words, if you're the kind of person who gets home every night and turns on cable news, then sleeps in on Sunday, you're doing it wrong. That is, if you watch cable news to be informed.
(In the study, 1,185 respondents nationwide were asked about what news sources they consumed in the past week and then were asked a variety of questions about current political and economic events in the U.S. and abroad to test their knowledge.)
