political affiliation meter options - May 12th, 2012, 12:54 PM

May I suggest that the political affiliation meter is too narrow in its offered options?

Why is no option "apolitical" offered?

Though a life long left winger I do not propose to stay there.

But I will never subscribe to any right wing outlook. I know far too much history for that

I am slowly moving to the view that both right and left wings are of the world, that politics is of the world, that it is a poisoned profession, and that political affiliation is friendship with the world.

Surely the spiritual thing is to let the dead vote for the dead and support the dead?

one needs only to look at the french revolution to see how well Atheism works on a society wide scale.

Orthodoxy is just the Tyranny of the Majority, a Spiritual Despotism where accepted doctrine is Sacred, Untouchable self-evident truth no matter how absurd it may be.

Stref . . . . and to medieval europe with its inquisitions to see how well "christian" theism works on a society wide scale.

THE fact is I am totally amazed at the complete moral myopia of those who think that right wing equals morality and true religion.

The church jumped into bed with the State when Constantine did the neighbourly thing and stopped the persecuting christians. This stayed for over 1000 years. Church and state in an obscene embrace with either a pope claiming temporal powers in the West or the Church reduced to a department of government in the East, most lately the Russian Orthodox Church under the Tsars. BTW The Russians got the idea of burning heretics rather late. They kept doing it after it had ceased in the West. "Christian" Theism on a society wide basis

Then, in reaction, some rejected the religion, rightly, that sat on the poor like a leech and became marxist revolutionaries.

So the church in similar fashion reacted to that, and sided further with the right wing.

BTW right and left wing came from the french parlement: those seeking to conserve their wealth by continuing to oppress the poor sat on the RIGHT of the King (hence the Right wing); and some with a measure of conscience on the Left.

you can peddle your emotive reactions as much as you like, I know too much history not to be grateful to those who enured a free education to me, a free medical system, a social welfare system that is still relatively humane: and they were the LEFT wing.

It did not make me righteous. but it had pragmatic social value

I was saying that BOTH wings are of their father the devil, but at least the left has some measure of social conscience.

but those infatuated with reactions rather than rational response to history will not want to heed this

I'd say, why is it not more complex. There is a very wide array of political opinions.

But then I'd also like to see you explain your politics in less than 4 words.

Because that doesn't exist.
