Great movie. One of the best scores I've heard in a while. Take away the illustration of what happens to Pitt's character in the beginning and it's a much better movie.

"Legions of the Fall" is good. I have many TCM, yes, AMC went with newer ,later with one commercial, then all commercials. If they have commercials in the film I cannot follow the picture. They should put all commercials at the end of the picture so we may watch it, the lousy pups! Fox movies had some good pictures.
Hate the emphasis shift at AMC and the commercials, but hopefully nothing like that will happen to TCM.

Speaking of a Legends star:

Anthony Hopkins: noted thespian, star of screens small and large and one of the senior talents in cinema, a recognized star for a few decades.

The 3: The Lion in Winter, The Silence of the Lambs, Howards End, The Remains of the Day...great in any number of lesser films as well. First saw him on Television in the mini series QB VII.

Who? One of those English, Shakespearean actors that once crossed the pond to dazzle us with alarming regularity.

It's too funny to take out.

Why is it Bond villains never seem to get near as much notoriety as the actor playing Bond? Even in the really good Bond films. The only reason I can think of films any of the ones from the Brosnan era have been in is because Sean Bean was in LOTR, but I wouldn't be able to tell you that if someone else hadn't pointed out to me that Sean Bean was 006 in Goldeneye. The only other Bond villain I can name that went on to be a star in his own right is Christopher Walken, from the '70s [AVTAK].

Its because it's an important element in Bond films that Bond always stays the coolest. It has to be that way. That's the way it works.

Javier Bardem is the/a Bond villian this time. I like Daniel Craig, but I think Bardem is a much better actor... I hope he steals the show, but it'll be difficult to out-villian himself as the ultimate villian in NCFOM.

I would contend that Robert Shaw was a pretty good Bond villain. And as Quint later in life.

Robert Shaw was great.

Odd Job is probably my favorite.

Or Fiona Volpe.

Bond can't be Bond without his villains. He's just a suave guy without them. Generally, the better the villain, the better the Bond film. But the villain can't ever overshadow Bond. One day they'll do it. ...That's what I'd try.

I odered "Machine Gun Preacher" on Netflix and watched it today. It is the true story of Sam Childer's fight gainst the LRA after he converted to christianity. But He allowed hate to control him. I thought it was good.

Liam Neeson - reminds me of Gary Cooper, because he can do drama and action, is tall and lanky, is an excellent character actor.

Best 3 movies - Taken, Schindler's List and Rob Roy. But nearly everything I have seen him do is quality stuff - another point of resemblance to Gary Cooper.

Bruce Willis - modern day Humphrey Bogart.

Best 3 - Pulp Fiction, 12 Monkeys, The Fifth Element.
I am trying to avoid the obvious Die Hard - fun, but not challenging acting-wise.

Paul Newman: won't qualify as a reincarnation of the old greats because he was part of that bridge to the new generation, like Brando.

The 3: The Verdict, Cool Hand Luke, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Life a Times of Judge Roy Bean...and a host of others. Nobody's Fool, Absence of Malice, Butch Cassidy..., The Sting, Hombre, The Hustler.

Yes, but this thread is about actors, not directors. Bruce Willis was good in Pulp Fiction, IMO.
(Reservoir Dogs is my favorite Tarantino.)

And Javier was already a known entity, before being cast for this; an exception by default.

Heath Ledger: talented actor only starting to come into his own with a limited body of work.

The 3: The Dark Knight, Brokeback Mountain, Monster's Ball/The Patriot...the rest is less compelling, though I thoroughly enjoyed his turn in the Four Feathers remake and thought it should have done better than it did.

Who?: James Dean is the obvious comparison. Reminded me a little of Richard Harrison too.
