today's Mass readings - the Church described / no eternal security -
June 16th, 2012, 09:51 AM
Sunday 6-17
Ezekiel 17
Thus says the Lord God: I, too, will take from the crest of the cedar, from its top-most braches tear off a tender shoot, & plant it on a high & lofty mountain; on the mountain heights of Israel I will plant it It shall put forth branches & bear fruit & become a majestic cedar Birds of every kind shall dwell beneath it, every winged thing in the shade of its boughs & all the trees of the field shall know that I, the Lord, bring low the high tree, lift high the lowly tree, wither up the green tree, & make the withered tree bloom As I, the Lord, have spoken, so will I do
Ps 92 Lord, it is good to give thanks to you
2 Cor 5
Brothers & Sisters: we are always courageous, although we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight Yet we are courageous, & we would rather leave the body & go home to the Lord Therefore, we aspire to please him, whether we are at home or away For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may receive recompense, according to what he did in the body, whether good or evil
St Mk 4
Jesus said to the crowds: “This is how it is with the kingdom of God; it is as If a man were to scatter seed on the land & would sleep & rise night & day & through it all the seed would sprout & grow, he knows not how Of its own accord the land yields fruit, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear & when the grain is ripe, he wields the sickle at once, for the harvest has come… To what shall we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable can we use for it? It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground, is the smallest of all seeds on the earth But once it is sown, it springs up & becomes the largest of plants & puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade” With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to understand it Without parables he did not speak to them, but to his own disciples he explained everything in private.
comments:
In the first psg the Church that God builds on EArth (1st throgh the Jews, then through the Catholic Church) is described...
In the last one: same thing
In the middle one: NO etenal security. We are judged by our WORKS
having faith (esp in the midst of life's storms) is ONE of those works
It is not the only one (see St James 2:12-20)
Oh dear.. I just noticed that MY James 2:12 is VERY different from the one in other versions of the Bible...
I refer to where it is sys something like this
What good is it to have faith but not works. Can faith save you? (etc)
Another eternal security thread? Come on. I thought you didn't have time to read a book about this very issue? Yet you have plenty of time to continue to start threads about the same topic.

Rather than being willing to engage in a meaningful conversation you continue to start new threads. Why?

Your unwillingness to fully engage in conversation. Instead you create excuses and then start...what is it 16 threads now...about the very same topic.
I offered you an opportunity to go deeper in a topic that you are obviously passionate about and instead of taking me up on my offer you made accusations and made excuses.
My initial offer:

In Bob's book The Plot, he goes through 10 major Biblical "disputes" with eternal security being one of them and diligently shows how all of the disputes can be resolved.
So we can continue arguing here on TOL about this issue or you could read The Plot and then we can discuss the issue within the greater context of the whole Bible.
I highly encourage you to read it.
Thanks.
Your initial refusal with accusations:

He is often portrayed as being confrontational in an effort to turn people from their wicked ways so that they don't spend eternity without God in Hell.
So you can continue creating threads about eternal security and people will continue to argue by tossing Bible verses at each other...or you can read The Plot and then we can have a more in depth and meaningful discussion about eternal security.
Thanks.
Then you started making excuses:

I then pointed out here that this seemed more like an excuse because you certainly have enough time to create multiple threads about the very topic that I want to go engage in yet you don't have time to read one book.
So I guess that's my problem. You unwilling to engage in a topic because you don't have time...yet you continue creating thread after thread after thread after thread about the very topic that you don't have time for.
I will even purchase the book for you and have it sent to you!

i did not say waht you claim
so... since u want to be dishonest...
and why you seem to idolize that book is beyond me...
In other words you were not telling the truth when you said that I was being "dishonest" by quoting your own words. Because you cannot show where I was being dishonest, you choose to end the "discussion". Nice.
