They can do either without leaving a comment. If you click on the reputation button, you can approve or disapprove... and you can leave a comment. A comment is not required, but some of us tend to use the comment line to say why we are leaving it (either positive or negative)

If the little box on the left is red, it's negative. All others are positive.
Not always. Sometimes they are neutral. If the person who left it has no rep power, then their reps are neutral. So if they leave no comment, you don't know if they chose positive or negative. Though, you might be able to tell what they intended if you know who left it and what their views on that particular subject are.
Can someone explain or interpret the meaning of the colored reputation "bars" on the left? What do they mean? How do we interpret them? Just curious! Thanks!
The Bible has no book of 1 & 2 Presidents, or 1 & 2 Legislators (the latter of which are specifically entrusted to continually change the law, something the Lord repeatedly rebukes Israel for doing).
Scripture does, however, have a book of Judges, and a book of 1 & 2 Kings. These are the rightful, divinely-ordained rulers of any just society under the principles of biblical theonomy.
My cursor ran across the stars off to the left of my screen today, and I was startled to find the phrase "cattyfan is well repsected by his peers." I was a bit annoyed, as I am decidedly female.

Yep, I know it. According to my rep, I am a dude also, LOL!
I do wish there was something on the profiles to indicate what gender other members are to save for those uncomfortable incidences when you refer to another member as he or she and they end up correcting you.

Oops!
You could change "Gold Level Subscriber" to "Female Subscriber".
1. Land forever. Gen 17:8 (KJV)
2. City FROM heaven. Rev 21:2 (KJV)
3. Heavenly places. Eph 2:6-7(KJV)
Don't mix them, leavening the whole household of God. Luke 13:21 (KJV)

If it helps, you should think of it as the gender neutral pronoun place holder.

See, I like the ambiguity. It makes it so much easier to "innocently" assume the wrong gender mid-argument with someone obviously illequipped to handle the hidden gibe.

So that would explain the change in rep power even though I've had no rep to change it?

What is Whiggery? A leveling, rancorous, rational sort of mind, that never looked out of the eye of a saint , or out of a drunkard's eye. All's Whiggery now, but we old men are massed against the world.
