Drudge Reports on Colorado's Personhood Effort

This is the show from Monday November 19th, 2007.

PERTINENT QUOTE FROM THE ARTICLE:
Quote:
If approved by voters, the measure would give fertilized eggs the state constitutional protections of inalienable rights, justice and due process.
* Make sure to check out: TheWeitzCompany.com

* Drudge on Colorado Personhood: Matt Drudge linked to this AP report on Colorado's petition drive. By his immense popularity with the media, Drudge linking to that article helps pro-lifers cross another threshold toward the goal of getting this personhood project into the mind of the public, since a listing on Drudge guarantees that most U.S. journalists now know of Colorado's amendment drive! When critics mockingly characterize a personhood effort as "rights for human eggs," we can remind them about basic biology, that an egg has half of the genetic material of a living human being, and that pro-lifers advocate for the God-given right to life of genetically unique, living human beings!

* Colorado Right To Life: announced today that it received a major grant of tens of thousands of dollars to help educate the public on the God-given right to life of every unborn child! A foundation wishing to remain anonymous gave the generous gift! Please consider donating to Colorado Right To Life online or by calling 303 753-9394!

* The World's Leading Cloning Scientist: England's Professor Ian Wilmut, has announced that he will not pursue the cloning of human embryos, but will instead use adult stem cell technology, which not only appears more promising for fighting disease, but also avoids the condemnation and opposition of those who oppose killing living human beings for research.

* Keep PP Out: Dec. 1st Rally: Come join the renowned leader Joe Scheidler in Denver at a rally to Keep Planned Parenthood Out, in opposition to the building of the largest abortion facility in the country! Also, join many of Colorado's pro-life leaders there including many from Colorado Right To Life!

* Bella is Doing Great!: If you liked it, please give it a good rating at the Internet Movie Database!

Today's Resource: The Plot is making its debut as a bound book! After a decade of sales of thousands of copies of Bob's unbound, best-selling manuscript, now as of December 1st, just in time for Christmas gifts, The Plot will be bound! If you get The Plot, and want the bound version, please just let us know when you call 800-8Enyart or in the Comments field when you order through the Literature Department of our online KGOVStore. com!

Give Credit Where it's Due, Bob - November 20th, 2007, 08:08 AM

Hi Bob,

So glad to hear you talk about Ian Wilmut's decision to abandon
cloning/embryonic stem cells on your show. However, there were some
inaccuracies in what you said, so I hope you can discuss this in more
detail on a future show.

Here's what really happened:
1) The girl born with two extra legs and two extra arms was not born in
Japan as you said. She was born in India, and her extra appendages were
actually those of a conjoined twin who stopped developing in the
mother's
womb: http://edition.cnn.com/2007/HEALTH/11/06/india.girl/

2) Ian Wilmut did not abandon ESC research for "adult stem cells" as
you
mentioned. What he actually did was this:

"...Now Wilmut himself has abandoned cloning, announcing this weekend
that he's enthralled with a technique pioneered by Kyoto University's Shinya
Yamanaka, who has genetically reprogrammed mouse skin cells to behave
like ESCs. Yamanaka's stem cells appear to be even more versatile than those
taken from cloned embryos."

Let me just say that I love your show and what you stand for, but these
statements show sloppy research. I know that you are mainly focused on
what's going on in Colorado with the pro-life movement, but I'd appreciate
it if you could give credit to Dr. Yamanaka for his breakthrough research when you get a chance.

Ash,
Thanks for pointing that out! Just FYI, Bob doesn't come here ofter so I doubt he will see your post.
But I wanted to thank you for posting it though and I will try to mention it when I see him next!
I need to read up on this issue and appreciate your links.
Thanks,

Thanks Crash - November 20th, 2007, 10:53 PM

I appreciate that. Also, bring this article to his attention if you're not already aware of it:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071120/ap_on_sc/stem_cells

One scientist says:

"This work represents a tremendous scientific milestone — the biological equivalent of the Wright Brothers' first airplane."
