From Matthew Henry's "Commentary on the Whole Bible":
Quote:
Pro 26:4-5 KJV
See here the noble security of the scripture-style, which seems to contradict itself, but really does not. Wise men have need to be directed how to deal with fools; and they have never more need of wisdom than in dealing with such, to know when to keep silence and when to speak, for there may be a time for both. 1. In some cases a wise man will not set his wit to that of a fool so far as to answer him according to his folly “If he boast of himself, do not answer him by boasting of thyself. If he rail and talk passionately, do not thou rail and talk passionately too. If he tell one great lie, do not thou tell another to match it. If he calumniate thy friends, do not thou calumniate his. If he banter, do not answer him in his own language, lest thou be like him, even thou, who knowest better things, who hast more sense, and hast been better taught.” 2. Yet, in other cases, a wise man will use his wisdom for the conviction of a fool, when, by taking notice of what he says, there may be hopes of doing good, or at least preventing further, mischief, either to himself or others. “If thou have reason to think that thy silence will be deemed an evidence of the weakness of thy cause, or of thy own weakness, in such a case answer him, and let it be an answer ad hominem - to the man, beat him at his own weapons, and that will be an answer ad rem - to the point, or as good as one. If he offer any thing that looks like an argument, an answer that, and suit thy answer to his case. If he think, because thou dost not answer him, that what he says is unanswerable, then give him an answer, lest he be wise in his own conceit and boast of a victory.” For (Luke 7:35 KJV) Wisdom's children must justify her.

I guess in day to day life such as at work, school or at the bars, the same types of topics don't really come up. But, when someone disagrees with you in person, do you call them a stupid moron or an evil, disgusting liar to their face?

I try to act exactly as I would in personal conversations as I do on this forum. Slightly sarcastic, but mostly respectful. I speak my mind and don't pull any punches, but I try not to be a jerk.
I am guessing you are no different than the other animals I do tell. Specifically queers and such. And they want to get violent, but usually rethink their ways.

This is a discussion forum. Just how can someone *get violent*, Nick? Better yet, just how do you believe that people rethink their ways?

I must admit, though, the sporadics rep comments you leave me such as "repent", "nazi', and "burn in hell" are so compelling.

Perhaps you need to return to the short bus. Or just read the post. He asked about real life. Of course I tell homos they are perverts. Sometimes they swell their chest up like they want something, but they never really do.

I don't really waste much time with those that demand to be condemned. Others don't want it. It is more rewarding to feed them the truth, than a dolt like yourself.

The most powerful man in Egypt when faced with great miracles, only pushed himself further from the Lord. The Jews when face to face with God, pushed him away. So it is no suprise that worm like you does the same. I won't feel one ounce of pitty for you.

I don't want or need your pitty, Nick ... however, I do feel pitty for you and anyone that exposed to you in RL and all your negativity. Your own self-loathing is apparent which wouldn't be so bad if you atleast had enough self-control to keep it to yourself ...

It's funny most of the people who whine about how mean everyone else is on this forum can give (and have given) as good as they get...but for the purposes of the whine session, tame themselves so as to attempt to appear down-trodden and put-upon.

As for me, I am pretty much the same here as I am everywhere. I give a fair chance to people, and when some of them expound on a topic long enough to reveal their arrogance and/or stupidity, I am not shy about pointing it out.

I'm kind of a jerk in real life, actually the term I prefer to use to describe myself is a slang term that literally is synonymous with sphincter. Dennis Leary wrote a song about it.

I'm actually more patient/polite on here than I am in "real life". I'm not sure why. It may have something to do with the fact that many of my viewpoints are contrary to majority here, and if I spoke the way many of the right-wingers do, but to them, I'd be banned. So, I tone it down, and speak to people more politely. Outside of this forum, and the internet in general, my style of argument is probably more similar to that of some of you. I can't say I'm as quick to resort to insults (I try to avoid that completely), but I'm definitely a lot more aggressive.

Surprising as it may seem, I'm a bit ruder, more vulgar, and more amusing in real life, ironically. This seems strange, but a limited introspection of my life has allowed me to semi-understand why this happens to me. I would like to say, though, I'm not entirely confident of my conclusion, but I remain to believe it, as it's the most likely of all I've come to:

In real life, you have to conform to standards of society and be wild and interesting to find company. You can't expect me to be as "boring" as I am here, at least in the eyes of my peers. But behind that coat of turd, is a soul of intellect, free thought, and vivid personality. Okay, fine, that's an exaggeration, but my point is, I let out the self that I feel to be, in the internet. Really, my behavior is very circumstantial, and I see the internet, and it's variety of communities and social networks, to be allowing me to express myself, in any way I wish. If I feel moody, I'll act moody. The internet seems a bit more comfortable for me, but at the same time I sometimes feel detached from reality, considering my introverted thoughtfulness and abundant time spent on the interwebz. :3

However, it also depends on my innate emotions and whatnot on that specific day. So, it's relative to the social context AND my innate feelings/cognition. Any of you seen thewinekone on Youtube? He's hilarious. xD

I don't have any established view other than my own towards anything, so I don't think it's proper for me to be overly critical or rude to anyone else. I don't expect anyone to believe like me or agree with me. To a certain point I think a person has to think that their belief structure is definite and true for all across the board before they can even began to criticize other people. I might point out facts that people get wrong, or that I may disagree. But I always do it in a manner that explains why I disagree and I never tell them they need to change their ways. It's none of my business. Though I have to admit I pick on Just Tom, but I don't need to explain why.
