The proposal in it's voted upon form was backed primarily by Dems. I seriously doubt that Pelosi's speech was so moving that she changed all their minds.

i completely expected this thread to be here after i read about the whole mess this morning. yes, the vote failed because pelosi gave a partisan speech, obviously. i'm sure the entire house, republican and democratic alike, were thoroughly swayed by her few jabs at the bush administration...

i swear, if all it takes is a minute speech from an unpopular congresswoman to sway the minds of hundreds of policy makers representing hundreds of millions of people, then i truly have lost confidence in the democratic system and human integrity in general...

That's what I was thinking.

The bill will be back. And you all should be concerned that it will eventually be passed.

So either she didn’t want it to pass or she figured what she said would not make any difference

Or the American people said no to a bad bill, and their representatives reflected that with their vote.

Just ask yourself why she would give a speech like that just before the vote

It killed the bill

It was a good thing

Did you listen to the nay speeches before her's? They didn't blame Bush. This is all political spin.

Ok, I have a question. I'm not an economics expert by any means. Let's say the bailout fails ultimately and nothing is done by the federal government. What is the worst case scenario with no gov't bailout? I really don't care for the scare tactics that Bush and Bernacke are trying to pull over us. But I'm not ecomonics savvy enough to really understand what really might happen if there is no bailout.
