I should have been more clear in the original post - I joined the FFRF because they support a strict separation of church and state, not because someone specifically stole this sign. The sign issue was just something I found kind of funny, since stealing it is something forbidden by the Christian God (assuming the perpetrators were Christian). Since people who stand up for what I believe were "under attack", I decided to join them formally instead of just informally contributing money to them for specific issues.
But yeah, if someone did steal a sign, or beat up protesters, or did anything illegal against a group that I believe in, then I would consider joining them with more than a provisional acceptance and acknowledgement.

Whoa! They put it up beside a nativity scene?! I mean yeah they have the right to post the sign on public ground but they had to know that location was going to bring a reaction from someone.
In my mind that's almost like proclaiming your athiesm loud and clear in the middle of a church meeting, you have to know and even expect that someone is going to react.
Tha's what I was thinking. Next thread title: "Missing atheist found in a ditch ".
Missing the good old witch burning days are we Koban? Wow a guy puts up a sign and you want him dead. I'd say that's not nearly as bad as knocking on my door during dinner to find out if i know their friend Jesus.

So did you join because petty, open antagonism seemed more virtuous to you than petty theivery?
Seriously, HC. It's one thing to disagree and do so intelligently. It's something altogether different to just try to be as irreverent as possible.
Surely you don't think that this sad little sign helped to 'free the minds of the religiously captive' do you? Or even that that's what its intent was? The sign was intended to be antagonistic from the get go.
Even you, HC, as anti-religious as you are, are better than that. Don't you think?
"At least half the people I know are below average."
"Because a thing must be something does not mean all things that are that something are also the original thing."

I didn't put up the sign; the Freedom from Religion Foundation did. They did so as protest, since a nativity scene was put up on public property (the Olympia, WA Legislative Building - establishment clause violation, anyone?). Since Christians were using public property to get their message out, then why not allow atheists equal access? The sign does not mention a Christian god or Jesus, nor does it advocate any harm to come to the nativity scene next to it.
Whatever the intentions of the sign where, no one had a right to steal it and throw it into a ditch. That is theft, and it is punishable under secular law, and it seems, your Christian god has something to say about that as well.

But it wasn't in the middle of the church, but on public property - the Olympia, WA Legislative Building.

If its left on public property, why wouldn't it be considered abandoned?
If its abandoned, then its not theft, right?
And our "Christian god" would be all hunky dorey about it!
