The Teaching Ministry of Jesus - May 21st, 2011, 02:34 PM

I came across a reference to John 7:17 in my reading today, and it began me to think about the teaching ministry of Jesus. I found these verses and remembered the last one in the process. Glory be to God for Christ's ministry!

Jesus began to teach:

Matthew 5:2 He opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying,

Mark 1:21 They went into Capernaum; and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and began to teach.

Mark 1:22 They were amazed at His teaching; for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

John 7:14 But when it was now the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and began to teach.

John 7:15 The Jews then were astonished, saying, "How has this man become learned, having never been educated?"

John 7:16 So Jesus answered them and said, "My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me.

John 7:17 "If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know of the teaching, whether it is of God or whether I speak from Myself.

John 7:18 "He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

Jesus speaks of His ministry, that God sent Him, and of His words and that the Spirit of God supplied Him with everything He needed.

John 3:34 "For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for He gives the Spirit without measure.

Deuteronomy 10:12 (KJV) And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,

Deuteronomy 10:13 (KJV) To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?

Hi , and Rom 15:8 ,

#1 , Jesus Christ was a minister of the Circumcision and Circumcision means his ministry was to Jews only as Eph 2:12 says that the Circumcision is made by hands .

#2 , And Jesus came to confirm the Promises made unto the fathers , which is Abram , Issac , and Jacob .

#3 , And Jesus never made Christians .

Jesus did primarily minister to the Jews, and yes He did come back to fulfill the what was written in the law and the prophets.

But the idea that he never "made" Christians is absurd. A Christian is a follower of Christ, that is what the word means.

The 11 were certainly Christians, and all the people at Pentecost were as well.

Jesus' mininstry began with the Jews and extended to the Gentiles. Your comment about Ephesians 2:12 doesn't seem to match up.

Christian is a term applied to those who follow Jesus as the Christ, or Messiah.

Obviously the scriptural record shows that he dealt with a few Gentiles during his earthly ministry. But, who was he sent to?

Who were the Twelve sent to, until the Son of Man be come?

Who was Paul sent to?

My point was that Jesus did not exclude the Gentiles, as some might think.

What is your point?

Hi , and and the 11 were followers of Jesus , but the word CHRISTIANOS was not used until Acts 11:26 .

Please , all notice that it is the disciples that are called followers in Acts 11:26 .

We follow Paul as he follows the Lord in 1 Cor 11:1 , Be ye followers of me , even as I also am of Christ .

We are New creatures in Christ and part of the Body of Christ , and I have never seen where Paul calls us christians , so where is that verse that I can see ?? dan p

Paul was sent to Gentiles.

See the difference?

Both ministered in the context of Israel and to those beyond Israel.

Which verses are you using to say Jesus wasn't sent to Gentiles and Paul wasn't sent to Israel?

He did. Gentiles that blessed Israel, feared God, and kept the law were counted as Israel.

It was a mixed multitude that left Egypt. In the land of Israel, everyone was to keep the same law, etc....

What do you mean by "He did"? I've read the Bible, and can guess at why you might say so... but I probably don't read it the same way you do. Gentiles can be saved as well as salvation being of the Jews. It is not exclusive.

Your quibbling over semantics.

Christian is a word in the English language used to describe followers of Christ and his teachings. Whether or not the exact word was used in the Bible is unimportant, as its just a name.

Paul obviously believed himself to be a follower of Christ, ergo by the the English definition of the word he is a Christian.

Whether or not Paul ever used the word as a description of himself or not is not important.

There are many words used to describe ideas in the Bible that are never actually used in the Bible proper. Trinity is an example of an idea that many would believe is biblical even though that word does not appear in the bible.

Salvation is by faith Nick, and if you are a Gentile, you can know you are included (in Jesus).

Deuteronomy 32:21 'They have made Me jealous with what is not God; They have provoked Me to anger with their idols. So I will make them jealous with those who are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation,

Romans 9:25 As He says also in Hosea, "I WILL CALL THOSE WHO WERE NOT MY PEOPLE, 'MY PEOPLE,' AND HER WHO WAS NOT BELOVED, 'BELOVED.'"

Romans 9:26 "AND IT SHALL BE THAT IN THE PLACE WHERE IT WAS SAID TO THEM, 'YOU ARE NOT MY PEOPLE,' THERE THEY SHALL BE CALLED SONS OF THE LIVING GOD."
