What Is Required For Salvation? - May 31st, 2011, 06:51 PM

Is it a lack of sin in your life? Is it obedience to God? That a person would repent, or maybe confess (their sin to God or that Jesus is Lord)?

These things may be, for obedience, a lack of sin, and confessing that Jesus is Lord are all good. But when it comes down to it is there one thing or is there a lot of things? Let's talk. In the meantime some verses to think about:

Romans 10:8 But what does it say? "THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART"—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching,

Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

Romans 10:10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

Romans 10:11 For the Scripture says, "WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED."

Romans 10:12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him;

Romans 10:13 for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED."

Romans 10:14 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?

Romans 10:15 How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, "HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!"

Romans 10:16 However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, "LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT?"

Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

Acts 4:12 "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."

Acts 16:31 They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."

1 Corinthians 15:1 Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand,

1 Corinthians 15:2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

1 Corinthians 15:4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

1 Corinthians 15:5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.

Deuteronomy 10:12 (KJV) And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,

Deuteronomy 10:13 (KJV) To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?

It (salvation) requires God rescuing you from sin and its consequences, does it not?!

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

What is entailed in believing the gospel?

Does the gospel have requirements?

For example:

Is it a matter of belief, or obedience, or repentance?

To believe the gospel is important. Is this belief like a set of beliefs, or a change in behavior/action from that of a sinner to being righteous?

What is the gospel, that it can be believed for salvation?

I'm not familiar with "A Course in Miracles". Is it Christian? It sounds foreign to me.

Hearing it and being convinced it is true.

No. It's just good news that God convinces you is true, so you believe it.

Repentance from unbelief occurs simultaneously with belief. Obedience to God's will is subsequent to repentance from unbelief, and has nothing to do with sin (Heb 5:8).

Neither, in my opinion, at least based on the way you worded it.

The gospel is God's promise to Abraham--we can receive the Holy Spirit through faith--has been fulfilled through the Messiah (Gal 3:14). Further, that His Spirit has been poured out on all flesh (Joel 2:28), so that when you do something to the least of people, you do it to God Himself (Mat 25:45; Mat 7:12).

Does disobedience characterize unbelief?
