Kansas woman Audreanna Phelps was at the mall one day when she noticed the word “God” on her leg, spelled out by a vein. Her first thought? God was telling her that her prayers have been heard and everything was going to be okay. My first thought would be, I’m too young for varicose veins! And that’s why some of us are religious and some of us are not. Final question: if there really is a God, why would he/she choose to make contact with humankind while shopping at the mall, the world’s least spiritual place? I guess God works in mysterious ways.

God finds us where we are. I didn't see anything in the picture that looked like G-o-d to me. But even if this is pretty silly on the surface, I'm not so sure of my superior judgment as to say God didn't use this to send her a message of comfort and Grace at a time when she seems to need it and been praying over some trouble.
She said she "felt" like it was a message. She might at some other time, see her cereal spell out j-e-s-u-s and say, "Oh, look how funny, the cereal says 'Jesus' " and scoop it up in her spoon not feeling anything at all.
The only thing I can say I know for sure from seeing this story: it must have been a heck of a slow news day.

To my mind it is wholly irresponsible to go into the world incapable of preventing violence, injury, crime, and death. How feeble is the mindset to accept defenselessness. How unnatural. How cheap. How cowardly. How pathetic.

I love how you're trying to turn this woman into some kind of spokesperson for anyone who believes in God. So deliciously typical. You make up your mind about how Christians (or religious people in general) are, and then won't let let hundreds if not thousands who fail to conform to your model change that. All it takes is one person doing or saying something weird that doesn't even have anything to do with the formal doctrine and teaching of any church and there's your confirmation that all Christians are that way. This is the kind of "logic" atheists are talking about when they go on and on about how "logical" they are as opposed to everyone else.

. . . only a few hundred . . . perhaps a few thousand christians don't conform to the rule?
. . . that must mean a few million . . . DO . . . conform to the rule . . . .
