Huh? Eli is #4 all time in yards passing in the SEC.
The list you produced to demonstrate the uselessness of college passing numbers before I noted that those numbers weren't generated in the SEC.

I still don't understand you point, though, my friend. How is the SEC a different animal? Pretty much all NFL scouts agree that for scouting QB's, college stats are utterly useless in predicting future NFL success.
It's a much harder conference to put up passing numbers. A better quality of player on the whole, especially at the top. Most of the higher end numbers you noted in the SEC came in a bunch during a rare downturn in the SEC. That corrected. As for your last assertion, I think that's your perception. I don't think it's accurate though. Or, rather, it depends on the conference. As a blanket statement it would probably be true. That's why I separated the conferences in my answer.
The zealots are mad that Denver brought in Manning.
Zealots???
Have you ever once considered that we are mad for all the right reasons? It's not only that we are Tim Tebow fans. We are also mad because....
- Manning is likely at the very end of his career while Tebow is just at the beginning.
- The price paid for manning doesn't allow the Broncos to fill the huge amount of holes this team has.
- Elway stated that Tebow wasn't going anywhere and had earned the right to compete for the job next season (we all agreed).
While I'm mad that we are losing Tebow I'm equally mad from a pure football perspective. I think bringing in Manning is a shortsighted move.
That being said... I would have been far less mad had they kept Tebow around just in case Manning has issues with his neck.
Granite's expression. I was distinguishing between the people who felt that strongly about him and my position.

No. I think you're mad for understandable reasons, but I don't think they're the right ones, overall.

A young QB that may develop into a top tier NFL qb against one of the greatest to ever play the game.
It's no toss up.

You pay for quality. It's only 18 million against this year and around twenty each for the next two and so on. It doesn't devastate you or prohibit you from additional signings. And it's about right for his skill set.

Sure, but even Tim recognized that when that sort of opportunity presents itself it changes things. And there's no way that Tim, a notoriously poor practice player, beats out Manning in any event, unless Manning dies just before practice.

I think you're completely turned around on that one. A QB with Tim's numbers managed to get your squad to an eight win season. This year your schedule reflects the division title and it's brutal. Add that to a book on Tebow and it would take a miracle to get another eight this year. With Manning you have a chance to make a little noise.

Now here we agree. I'd also have loved to see Manning in a mentor role. I think it's a horrible waste of opportunity for both sides. At least you got draft picks. That's...something. To my mind that's the part that tells you everything you need to know about the attitude of the coaching staff and management in Denver.

Fine, and if he fails, I'm prepared for excuses from his fans. Because they refuse to accept the possibility that he simply can't cut it at a pro level.
I don't claim to know more than the experts, but I do know that "experts" drafted him in the first round and he has done OK so far Why would a season like he had last year show him to be less valuable than he was right out of college?

Well, most considered Tebow drafted in the 1st round as a huge over-draft on the Broncos' part. No one had Tebow being drafted in the first round. Most objective pre-draft lists had Tebow far down the draft. Here are a few.

A former head coach fired by Denver drafted him far higher than was expected. And Tebow completed less than half his passes last year. It is Tim Tebow and his fans who need to change, not the league.

How does Tebow need to change in your opinion? The fans are the fans. Without them you got nothing! Nobody watching beer commercials, nobody in the stands, nothing!

It'd be nice if he could read defenses, work on his mechanics, and complete more than 46% of his pass attempts. You know. Basic quarterback-type stuff.

Tebow right now has the tools to be a great tight end. It will be a shame if he never realizes that potential because of some weird Quixotic quest to make him an NFL QB.
You could be right.
Kordell Stewart is a good example. During his rookie season he was "slash", and was pretty good playing receiver.
Stewart could have been a really good wide receiver in the NFL, but he wanted to be a qb, and refused to play wide receiver.
He had a little success playing qb at first, but ended up not being a good qb.
Time will tell if Tebow ends up being another Kordell Stewart, or if he ends up with a career similar to Hines Ward.
